I'm not condoning anything here, but this:

Research conducted for the campaign found that one in five drivers killed in road accidents may have an impairing drug in their system.

sounds like a bogus statistic to me.

A 50mph NSL and loads of cameras is likely to make road casualty figures worse. The cameras will almost certainly be located on the safest stretches of road where the number of violations (and hence fines revenue) is expected to be the highest. Many people who are forced to slow down on these safe s...

I can completely understand how fear of our oppressive, ever-watching Police state could trigger a phobia focussed on the symbols of that state (in this case, Speed Cameras).

I reckon that cases such as this are likely to become more widespread.

What a complete and utter bell end. I sincerely hope that this is a one-off.

Oh come on. We all know that this is nothing to do with road safety policy. It is about having an excuse to roll out ANPR technology nationwide to track our every movement. Agreed. And they will have a renewed wave of fines revenue to help pay for it... Would everyone please sign the petition prote...

Absolutely insane. Another aspect is this...

I look out of the window and see someone peering into all the cars down my street.. Is it a thief? should I confront him? or maybe call the Police?

Nahh, it's probably just one of those PCSOs doing a sticker run. I'll leave him be...

The Home Office said the data would be useful for combating crime. Why do the people keep falling for this same line over and over again? Yet again, criminals will either find ways of avoiding detection, or will simply make greater use of stolen identities. Meanwhile, the new powers will be used by...

One thing that site doesn't say is what exactly is changing that will make independent repair harder/impossible/illegal? Is there some new legislation due or something? Current EU legislation obliges manufacturers to provide technical information (including those all-important ECU login codes) to i...

"Making careless driving a fixed penalty offence will help the police to enforce against bad drivers who admit fault with a minimum of bureaucracy..." As a result of this ridiculous scheme, far less drivers will be willing to admit fault for minor bumps, for fear of the points. This will ...

Having 6 points on my licence for 38mph and 39mph on Marlow hill, you can imagine my fury when they increased the limit. I am not surprised that the limit increase has not resulted in more accidents. The old 30mph limit was not safety motivated - it was a pure revenue raiser. The road, which is on a...

Many thanks to everyone for their responses. My intention with this one was just to "put an idea out there" to see what came back. I'm not an expert in logistics by any means, but I can appreciate that the economic cost of disrupting the flow of goods (particularly perishable ones) from so...

I'm actually surprised that no-one has called for a knee-jerk 20mph limit on the road concerned.

I really don't like this whole situation where the Law says it's OK to do something, but if you have an accident while doing it, the punishment is more severe than if you had an accident while not doing it (regardless of whether or not a causal link is proved between the activity and the accident) I...

The 2008 VED changes are just another stealth tax.

The Government don't want you to buy a "greener" car. They don't want you to use your car less. They don't give a stuff about the environment. They just want your money.

It's funny how they can find an extra 50billion to help out banks . And fight pointless forign wars! And fund the EUSSR! And pay countless lazy Chav slobs to stay at home, completely reliant on Government benefits (A great way of guranteeing votes!) And pay £billions to IT Consultancy firms for Owe...

There will be sharp correction in property prices. There is no doubt about it. The property market simply isn't conducive to "soft landings". When people see their next eggs start to erode, they will naturally start selling up to maximise their profits. It is this which will precipitate th...

I have seen these too - they seem to have replaced the red light cameras that were there previously. Dual purpose devices? Next time I go past I'll stop in the layby and get some pics.
