- Do hybrid vehciles like the Prius save energy over a lifetime (dust to dust energy cost?) (no chance). Someone in the USA has just completed a study along these lines. IIRC dust to dust energy cost of a Prius turned out to be higher than a Hummer H3. Also the hybrid Honda Accord was higher than t...

Have used a FIAT system which automatically switches off fogs if it thinks it's not foggy enough. At least I think that's what it was doing. The other possibility is that it's shit.

I can sort of see where Peter Snow is coming from. I imagine that having a famous face makes you an instant target for every good cause to ask you to show your support in front of the cameras, and there's no way anyone can support them all. And when it comes to poppies the past have sacrifice of liv...

I'm as anti war as the next man, but I've had a poppy at this time of year ever since I can remember. If you remember the sacrifice and suffering there's all the more reason to aim for peaceful solutions in the future, which is why AFAIC a red poppy is also a symbol of peace. What a superb picture.....

Just out of interest, how did you persuade the insurance company to pay out on a car they wanted to write off? Have you looked into the obvious stuff like getting reccer quotes? Won't be cheap I imagine. Perhaps you could insure it as normal, pay on monthly installments, and cancel the policy the mi...

From the Raising legal driving age thread. Ooh look, another pointless numerical limit. That'll solve the problem... Or perhaps it's time to get rid of the production line driving school idea and return to 20/30 years ago - where teenagers were taught to drive first, then taught to pass the t...

But then , as i said elsewhere - in days of old ,before production line driVer training - someone would have taught him what to do in a skid, as ice happens EVERY YEAR. From what I remember of my lessons any discussion of what to do when skidding was pretty rudimentary. Probably just a brief explan...

I'll have to look at the blind spot mirror idea. The mirror sits quite deep so it might be a case of hunting for just the right one. I'll also have to ask the guy who owns it if he minds, but I can't think why anyone would object to adding stuff that may prevent a collision. Ta.

This caused a near miss the other day, and I thought I'd share it as I haven't worked out a solution yet. In L3 on the 5 lane section of the M25, and I need to move over into L2 as the M3 interchange is coming up. What happened next was along the lines of mirrors... signal... mano :o -where the hell...

Then a piece of safety equipment that won't be effective for a lot of the time seems a bit pointless. saying that is no different to the "if you hit me at 30 I'm going to die" claims. Out of interest, how easy is it to exceed 12mph on a bicycle? solo cruising speed (ie on the flat) 15-20mph. Club r...

:yesyes: Well, not a III but it is a Street Pilot. Not very expensive one I think - got the wheely button in the middle. But I probably wouldn't be satisfied with anything less than full on voice control anyway. I really want to be able to just call out a postcode or road name to make it go. I'd als...
