BBC News link Another knee jerk proposal with little thought. First of all (yet again) there is no mention of how many accidents occur caused by someone who is WITHIN the current limit. All I see is: Research shows that alcohol use increases the risk of a crash for young drives 2.5 times more than ...

To be honest, it really is a bit stupid to be on the phone, hands free of not, for that long. Nevertheless, was it actually PROVEN that him being on the phone caused the crash and not something else? He went into the back of a stationary vehicle without applying his brakes. Either he was looking th...

This is Livingstoned land - what do we expect? Of course it'll probably cause more pollution (and let's not forget that includes CO2 ) because cars are far less efficient at 20, and then every car will be charged £25 to drive through there because they're all "polluting so much". And...

That they probably wouldn't raise much money cause it's pretty darn hard to even reach 20 in London!

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=478202. We are a bit late on this discussion, and it could be C+ ringing up the ABD posing as media.. but The ABD have received media enquiries over a DfT proposal, framed like this: 'Because of the cost of new speed limit signs under the 2006 ...

<sigh> QFT. This is just another case of, "The answer's a bigger restriction. What's the question?" How about encouraging more use of pass plus and more lessons in general after taking the driving test? And how about encouraging better attitudes from those who feel like they can be boy ra...

And when the government in 5 years time realises that this won't improve road safety, I'm sure they'll try speed limit cuts again.

Has anyone noticed how emotion seems to be used the most with drink driving to get people to accept lower limits?

I bet they had a sticker saying "slow down and save a life" or something. I have actually heard people on the radio who say they drive in L3 at 70 to stop others breaking the speed limit. :loco: I'm pretty sure I've come across people before who are like that. The thing is, they don't rea...

I've always wondered why we need more space for housing. Wouldn't it be better if existing houses (obviously the unoccupied ones) were turned into flats? Then we wouldn't need to keep looking at more countryside/flood plains to build on. And of course I agree with everyone above - that flood plains ...

Well, there are a couple that fit that band but they are wholly electric cars only (even the Pious is >100g). And what happens when, say 5-10 years down the line, average CO2 car emissions have dropped by 10%/20%/whatever? They'll just lower the bands to ensure they still get their income.

The minimum driving age must be raised from 17 to 18 to stop young people "killing themselves and others" Novice drivers should be banned from carrying passengers aged between 10 and 20 late at night, the report adds. Under the proposed changes, people could start learning to drive at 17,...

Obviously someone with his own web design company lives in Stanley Hill. Does anyone know this road and can comment on the appropriateness of the 30mph limit? According to website the 30 limit has only just been introduced and from looking at the photos on the main page it seems to me that 35-40 is...

Yep, it's definitely been discussed here before. I've heard that it can reduce congestion as well. Anyway it should definitely be looked into more here. But sadly I suspect that the anti-car groups will no doubt try to stop it because it makes things nicer for motorists. Can't have that now, can we.

Anyone mentioned J15 M6 going north from the A500? very sweeping long tight curve. I remember that one too when I went to Uni up there a couple of years back. Was bad enough trying to get on the motorway with a 1.0 litre Mini - I'll never forget having to do 45 in 2nd to get enough acceleration! So...

In my opinion reducing the limit 80 mg to 50 mg is probably not going to reduce casualities at all. We have little data in this area and changing policy on gut feeling would be wrong. I suppose we need to know the effect on casualities if we go to 50 mg ( or 0mg). Are drivers more or less likely to...

“ We need to discuss raising speed limits when people get used to adhering to the current ones” So is he one of those people who believe that if people are doing 40 in a 30 limit, they'll do 50 if the limit is raised to 40? “ We should be teaching 10 and 11-year-olds about their responsibilities wh...

it's only approx 1 Mile long so WTF is going on?? Sounds to me like it's a speed limit reduction for "environmental" reasons - which these days is often seen as very noble, but of course like with other speed limit cuts, it'll mean more drivers focusing on their speedos and probably speed...
