After the double white lines are painted next week, anyone caught overtaking could be given three penalty points and a £60 fine.

Since when did solid white lines signify no overtaking?

I don't post here often but I regularly lurk around. I also often have a look at the C+ forum, as it's interesting (once you've cut through some of the blinkered views and personal insults) to see a contrasting point of view on riding/driving, traffic and road safety in general. One of the claims th...

I was watching a foreign TV news show last week which did a feature on speed cameras and other technology on the German Autobahns, where some of the cameras can now detect tailgating by measuring the seperation distance between vehicles. The general rule of thumb given to avoid falling foul of these...

The M20 down to the Channel Tunnel, whenever I go over to the continent, as the driving roads and conditions over there are much better.

I've also tried making the point that driver education is the main key to improving road safety, but this seemed to go over the heads of most of the C+ posters. This statement is completely untrue. http://www.cyclingplus.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=115888 Jub Jub / Mr Paul, I'm afraid that you a...

Perhaps the training could be paid for with some of the £50 billion annually that motorists contribute to the taxman.

I wouldn't even mind if drivers had to pay for the education / re-testing themselves, as long as this would have a positive effect on road safety.

I understand what you are saying. It does seem however that whatever the scenario, it is the poor driving that puts a spanner in the works. Cameras are said to be dangerous because poor drivers are unable to act safely around them. And on the other side, altering the speed limit system is dangerous...

If your insurance has expired and your car is on the road, it's illegal.

:? Why is it illegal for a car to be on the road without insurance?

Surely the driver is insured to drive the vehicle, but if it's not being driven why the neccessity for insurance?

I followed a vehicle in Leyland this afternoon with a bizarre sticker saying something like the above (cant remember as I was laughing outloud  ) with a nice picture of a Gatso on it. MUST have been a Scamera Partnership employee   Only problem was, she was doing 22-24 mph for the ...

This was discussed on PH a few weeks ago. Why do they have to fine you if you overstay? If the machines can record the excact time that you arrive, why not programme them so that you have to pay for the parking just before you leave, so that you pay for the actual time that you have used the parking...

I believe Tetra radios are both push to talk and can be used as a phone to connect to the PSTN network. Also they don't opperate on any frequency listed in the regulations so are excempt from the silly mobile phone law. As are PMR, etc. My new Nokia 6230i has a PTT (push to talk) function, but is d...

I've just seen on TV a new THINK advert, advising to drive carefully in icy conditions. This is the first time that I have ever seen it.

Could this advert have been created as a consequence of the cyclists tragedy in Wales last week.?

Robots always get the dates for Christmas and Halloween confused. Made me feel all 'geeky'..... :D I got it straight away - now I feel really geeky! :?...

The three drivers were originally charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Mr Torka pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of careless driving which was accepted by the court. He was fined £200 with £100 costs and awarded 6 penalty points. The Crown offered no evidence against the other two dr...

NB: The website of the woman selling stickers is http://www.sticktothelimit.com - It has rather a neutral point of view, but the programme painter her as pro-camera. Have a look at some of the quotes that have been submitted to that website. (My emphasis in bold ) Mrs S: " I was just over the limit...
