Like the A34 and A535 going 50mph in various places south of Alderley Edge. :x I've seen the A535 one, but I've not seen any new limits on the A34. The 30 at Marton has been there for a year or two. The 40 at Nether Alderley probably for at least 3 or 4 years. The rest between Alderley and Congleto...

Could be a useful point we can get out to those with limited maths knowledge (rttm and similar go over a lot of people's heads): That's less than one KSI prevented per speed camera: i.e. most cameras have acheived nothing :D If there are about 6,000 cameras, then that's on average more than 90% of ...

...but it's still just bacteria, and will remain bacteria. It hasn't evolved into a poly-bag muchosarus! :D And this bacteria didn't spontaneously appear - it is an obvious mutation of an existing life form. "you can't get owt from nowt" Yes, it's still just a bacteria, at the moment, but what did ...

Can some one name just one species that has spontaniously appeared in the past 150 years or so since Darwin. One of my favourites is a species of bacteria, which has evolved the ability to digest nylon (as its only food source), discovered in nylon waste from a factory. Before anyone says, "so what...

But the camera operators are apparently meant to make a prior judgement whether a vehicle is speeding before actually measuring the vehicle's speed. Judging a vehicle's speed accurately from 600m is not going to be particularly easy. A 2m wide object doing about 70mph at a distance of 600m will appe...

Wouldn't it be so much simpler to just put the repeaters in and be done with it? That way there can be no possible confusion. Simpler, but expensive. Just remember that every street on every housing estate in the country would need to have 30 repeaters, as well as all of the A and B-roads in urban ...

I hope that the new version of the HC will say something like: Street lamps always mean that a 30 mph speed limit applies unless : (a) There are signs that indicate otherwise, [placed at a distance of not more than 600 yards apart]; (b) The streetlamps are more than 200 yards apart; (c) The streetl...

I believe Cambridge also plans to impose a congestion charge.

Of course if the council simply removed some of the unnecessary out-of-phase traffic-lights on Newmarket Road (there are at least 15 or 20 sets in a couple of miles), then much of the congestion would be reduced.

Only a mile? I know a road where occupying L2 appears to be compulsory for right turns 3 miles before the roundabout!

Well, on this stretch of the A34, the roundabouts are spaced a bit closer than a mile apart, so people move into L2 only about a mile in advance

Another useful alternative is using the A50 between M6 J15 and M1 J24. This is all dual carriageway with only 3 or 4 roundabouts. It's normally not too busy and AFAIK has no fixed cameras.

Sssshhhhh. Don't tell anyone about that route ;-)

I've noticed this on the A34 (no rdbts)/A43(plenty). You can get through the cattle a hell of a lot quicker on the A43! I regularly use the A34 dual-carriageway (with lots of roundabouts), and it's frequently my observation that many people will travel in lane 2 if they want to be turning right fro...

You usually fnd the vans on these safer stretches where the limit seems unusually low and everything about the road suggests it once had a 40 mph limit. And many locations I've seen have had more than a 10mph drop in limit in the last 5-10 years, backed up with cameras. :nsl: to :880: :furio...

in effect, one could rightly argue the government is responcible for the destruction of the enviroment because it suits them financially in terms of stealth tax. It's interesting to note that all new road improvements must undergo a cost:benefit analysis. The costs must now include potential lost f...

D/C's all start with a keep left arrow, which is a dead giveaway - absence indicates a S/C. But all S/C sections where hatching starts will (should) also include a deflection-arrow - so presence doesn't indicate that it's a D/C. Dual carriageways should also have a "Dual Carriageway Ahead" sign, an...

MM has asked me about this road - I asked my GMP brother and sister. Personally I'd treat as NSL single and drive at ca 60 mph. Both my sibling relatives say they have not heard of prosecutions at 70 mph to date on this road but do warn of occasional enforcement by talivan near the first set of lig...

The A55 from roughly Abergele to Conwy was constructed with a dished channel in the centre, no kerbs, and a barrier in the channel. Is it fair to say then that simple removal of the barrier would convert the DC to a SC and thereby lower the speed limit by 10mph at a stroke and without need for an O...

Basically, would this (cobbled together from Highway Code images :) ) be a dual carriageway? http://images.fotopic.net/y982xk.jpg No. Paint doesn't count. It's one continuous carriageway (and besides, I think that this road layout would need hatching - as I don't think TSRGD 2002 would prescribe th...
