| Gatsobait - I'd obey the law - the safety question is entirely different, but first and foremost you hold a LICENSE to drive on our roads, a condition of which is to obey the law. SafeSpeed - 1) Perhaps not on a racetrack, but there are others on the road to consider here - children running out betw... |

| It's funny you say that, 'cos I have a stopwatch that beeps every twenty seconds to alert me that I must check my speed. Regardless of the road conditions I MUST look away from the roads to check - otherwise I could not live with myself. Come on... you check when it is safest to check, but that shou... |

Only just spotted this one ...
Wouldn't it be much better if the police drove at 30mph all the way to emergency crime scenes so as not to trigger the cameras? That would really help. |

| You mean this section? What percentage of your total attention do you think you allocate to speed limit compliance? How many times a minute do you check your speedo? How many times a minute would you check your speedo when driving down a long gentle slope (30 mph limit) in a car with an automatic ge... |

Quote: Ever copied a CD, software or video. Maximum penalty 10 yeas in jail...much worse than speeding obviously hence the penalty.
Good point. Perhaps the penalty for speeding should be increased then to compensate? |

| When you are obeying those 30 limits that could safely be 40 or 50 are you making the roads safer in the process, or are you merely obeying a law that achieves nothing or even inadvertantly makes things more dangerous? Your question is irrelevant. I obey those limits because speed limits are there ... |

| By the way, Edd_1978, do you drive? If so, how many miles do you do a year? During that mileage, do you believe you adhere to every speed limit? Yes I do drive - approx. 12-14000 miles a year. And yes of course I believe to adhere to the speed limits. Even those 30 limits which could safely be 40 /... |

| It is a good and valid point that you could quite easily miss a road sign indicating a change in the speed limit. Far more reminder signs would be the appropriate solution to that. Perhaps a solution to the "panic braking" scenario would be tiny, covert cameras so the speeding motorist is unaware th... |

The idiot would not need to swerve to avoid a camera if he was driving within the law. He is a criminal causing danger to innocent law abiding motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
So if ALL motorists stuck to the speed limits this situation would not arise. Am I wrong? |

| I have been reading the site with interest - there is a lot of well thought out content to be read and I agree with a lot of what is said. However laws are there to be obeyed and a topic about dodging speed cameras by crossing to the other side of the carriageway is hardly one about safety. It is ab... |

| Perhaps it would be better to print the map with a massive picture of a gatso covering the whole of the UK. That way motorists would know to expect a camera wherever they went. If that were the case then perhaps all speed limits would be respected and our roads would be safer. |

| Shocking. They should be setting an example to the rest of us - speed limits are there to be obeyed. And as for tailgaiting... disgraceful, dangerous and totally dispickable. |

| Surely if you drove within the speed limit this topic would be pointless. Stop trying to justify law-breaking and slow down for goodness sake. |
