I think they tried that in New Zealand. It led to a large increase in the accident rate, and was subsequently scrapped. |

Ringway Road and Ringway Road West near Manchester Airport are partly 40, and partly 50. A couple of years ago, due to some work at the airport requiring traffic to be diverted, they slapped a temporary 30 limit on the 50 stretch, and part of the 40 stretch, and put in a mini roundabout. The origin... |

According to an article in the Macclesfield Times , the whole thing has been a complete fiasco, as bikers are taking a diversion off the A537 and thus avoiding detection. Apparently it's also possible that the bikers are not taking a diversion at all, but that given the location of the cameras, it's... |

The new unit is clearly a flash unit. I would say it is to combat flash back caused by sprays such as this one: http://www.phantomplate.com/ by changing the angle there will no longer be a reflection in the direction of the camera. As I said on a similar post ,old what's his name from under the wav... |

That would be the Victoria Avenue where I was done many years ago by a Gatso. Why this policy of reducing the speed limit to an inappropriately low value, then going to town on enforcement? |

Two cameras have appeared on the northbound A6 Buxton Road in Hazel Grove, Stockport, in what was until recently a 40 area, but now reduced to a ridiculous 30. (There are houses on one side, but they are set back behind a service road.) The first camera as you approach from the south is apparently a... |

I would say that anyone smoking a cigarette isn't in complete control of their vehicle so they should not smoke and drive. If you can't operate a phone then you can't mess around lighting a cigarette and dropping the ash into the ash tray or out of the window or throwing the fag butt into the road ... |

Wow! This road must be so dangerous they had to replace the one Gatso with two Monitrons! I travel on that road every day. The average speed - apart from next to the cameras - is around 65. The odd person doing 50 "because speed kills" tends to cause irritation. The only accidents I'm awa... |

orange wrote: How long has that 50 limit been there? Long enough to ask the council for before-and-after casualty figures for the road? The road was opened in 1995. I'm not certain exactly when the limit was reduced, but it must have been around 1997. The cameras went in several years later. |

I've got some photos of the cameras now. They're not particularly good, as it was dull and raining slightly, and they've been dumbed down to death to meet the size limits. They're clearly monitrons. Anybody know what the blue pole is for? |

I'll post a picture tomorrow if I can. |

Blimey? Are they going to use vans? or stealth mobiles? :scratchchin: From what I understand, the long term plan is to monitor vehicles using gps, and install speed limiters. The idea is to locate the car's position, and force compliance with the speed limit as obtained from a national speed limit ... |

From a lot of the camera photos I've seen most of them seem to be located at the bottom of a hill. I'm sure its so you pick up speed without realising and don't have time to readjust, comparision to Irish legislation where the Gardaí can't do their speed checks at the bottom of the hill, has to be ... |

Nedsram, I actually live on this road albeit a bit further down in Didsbury. I have often noticed how I seem to be greeted at every junction with a red light - now I know why! I also have the great scenic view from my living room of a red light camera on one of the junctions  Now that '40 - S... |

More crashes because drivers will continuously be monitoring their speedome... |

Apart from those who have been taken in by the "speed kills" rubbish, it's generally the feeling that speed cameras cause more problems than they solve. The nearest I have come to being smashed up recently was when the woman in front (who had been doing a rather erratic 45 in 50 areas, red... |
