taken from the T2000 web site. •Driving sensibly: Keep to 40 or 50mph, even on motorways, and don’t accelerate too rapidly. Priceless. Utterly fatuous... Accelerating gently over a long period uses much more fuel than brisk acceleration followed by a steady cruise as well.. Spot on, Pogo. And...

Nice one Paul. Christopher Booker's column is the first thing I go for every week when I open my Sunday Telegraph. The good thing about him is that he nearly always provokes some response. Look out for the letters column in next week's edition.

The man is a total prat. Remember his antics when he played for Leeds? If he is so stupid as to drive at that speed, he deserves all he gets. Sorry, no sympathy whatsoever. Especially given his previous record. If you could be imprisoned for being an a******e he would be banged up tomorrow  T...

Feature Critics today slammed speed camera bosses after figures revealed Teesside motorists have forked out more than £3m in fines. New figures show the Cleveland Safety Camera Partnership raked in a surplus of £1.15m from fining motorists between 2001 and 2004. Angry campaigners say the cash seize...

Without wanting to drift too far off Stephen's topic, surely modern technology is capable of providing for variable speed limits. These some to work well on the M25, though I must admit that I am only an occasional user of that road. We ought at least to be exploring the possibility elsewhere parti...

The only DfT figures I could find were the deaths for Cheshire:

1995: 81
1996: 76
1997: 61
1998: 69
1999: 75
2000: 73
2001: 69
2002: 70
2003: 72
2004: 67

Source Dept for Transport

I think you would be hard pressed to find much of real significance in those stats

Speed Cameras cutting death toll on local roads. DREADED speed cameras are helping to save lives and cut down on casualties and car crashes in Cheshire. Hated by many, the cameras have nevertheless played a large part in helping many motorists and passengers to stay alive, say police. The annual re...

I would like to ask all of you motorists this question. What speed do you think that you should be able to drive at in a 30mph limit before you get prosecuted, forget about things like, time of day dry road, no pedestrians etc, concentrate on the actual speed limit. This is a very important question, ...

My view has changed markedly over the last few years. The sensible rational person in me says that the police driver found guilty of speeding should be treated as any other individual. Afterall speeding is a trivial offence. The indignant, 6 points on my licence, person says no no no! I will not be...

I did a F.O.I. request for deaths by county over the part 10 years in excell format. I received my reply and have added some columns that highlight counties where things are getting worse. It is Here! now some partnerships cover more than one county such as Thames Valley but there is a lot of them ...
