Mmm. Some of their staff are liars and charlatans, or so I've heard. (Actually no, that was in 2006/7.... ;))

I always thought of our organisation as being very open and transparent :liar: I now have a phobia about reading newspapers because every day brings more bad news for the motorist.... Nah. That's not a phobia. That's rational behaviour. :D As is Mr Gant's "phobia" of cameras triggering wh...

Anyone (like me) who's inclined to skim over long posts, go back and read this one as it sums it all up very well.

Thanks bud. ;)

I was driving along a twisting country NSL road this A.M. when I came across a horse trailer doing about 30 MPH with a line of about six cars behind him, how refreshing when he pulled over at the first layby and let us pass before pulling out again. Refreshing indeed. I think I probably would have ...

Going to have to disagree with everyone here. I am actually in support of this (read the entire post before angry replying). We can say lower speed for the same risk promotes inattention and the accident rate will go up, its easy for the Government to say "Prove it". Make the best out of ...

Quite correct, weepej. ^ Indeed. As weepej is very much pro-camera, I wouldn't necessarily expect him to give good advice to someone who he decided was trying to "get out" of a speeding conviction (and that would probably apply to pretty much anyone who ever tried to fight a speeding tick...

This is just one more thing which shows that those behind con charges aren't remotely interested in solving congestion, or "saving the environment". They are solely interested in punishing people for using their cars (as an end rather than a means), whether or not they can reasonably be ex...

I think you answered my point quite nicely with your second statement. You don't really like people having fun do you? Any kind of hedonism (e.g. liking the sound of one's V8 engine or enjoying one's car in any way), whether or not it actually has any adverse impact on others, is seen as immoral an...

I don't understand why people complain about running costs of pointless vehicles like running 5 litre cars in city centres - isn't it a bit obvious that if you're getting 15mpg crawling through traffic for a few hours a day, and your car takes 75 litres of petrol at £1.20 a litre, it's going to cos...

I can't believe that you don't know the elementay biology of the eye, because yes we do all have tunnel vision Er, no we don't. In medical terms, tunnel vision is the loss of peripheral vision with retention of central vision, resulting in a constricted circular tunnel-like field of vision. http://...

By increasing the flow at only one part of the system is what creates bottlenecks, jams etc. Actually finding out what the optimum speed is, is the difficult bit, especially as it is going to vary for every car on the system, unless they are doing the same journey. Peyote hits nail squarely on head...

Round here at least, the PCSOs drive around in cars which don't have blue lights. Clearly they're not allowed to stop vehicles while they're in their car, so presumably the same thing applies when they're on foot. The PCSO who "polices" this large but quiet village has been helpfully ticke...

Weepej whined: Well, you're a bit of silly boy then. You can travel at 20 in third gear perfectly OK, and its very easy not to exceed a 20 limit if you chill out a bit So why do you regularly speed then (as you've frequently admitted)? Perhaps it is you who needs the lessons? Since your posts on he...

... I believe speed limits are a useful tool to have and to use in addition to more traffic police. Much like I believe speed cameras are a useful tool, again in addition to more traffic police. But hey, that's just me, and I recognise I'm in a (huge!)minority here! Actually, taking your view that ...

The only time, that I can forsee, that speed can actually play a part as an active causal factor in an accident is when excessive speed for the conditions has directly resulted in a loss of control. In every other situation I cannot see it being anything more than a mitigating/aggravating factor. I...

Someone who has a prejudice against cars is unlikely to admit to themselves that they're observing safe driving the vast majority of the time. *sigh* I say on here time and time again the majority of drivers are conciencious, safe and careful, I don't really care about those ones though, they'll ge...

we do know that the vast majority of drivers are still driving 'safely enough' not to crash From my observations many are just lucky not to crash. Yet with bus drivers, cyclists and other politically correct forms of transport, it's through pure skill that they don't crash. Ever consider that your ...

Of course, the fact that you don't want to slow down then speed up again if you can avoid it is a good excuse to straight-line certain roundabouts without slowing down (other traffic permitting)....

What really does make a difference is the increasing engineered congestion and enforced stops and starts on the roads. I can drive my economically on most older trunk roads, but the recent habit of introducing roundabouts where there would have been grade separated junctons, and traffic lights on r...
