Aside from those who get to spend the money, who benefits from anyone being fined for not wearing their seatbelt? Anyone who is involved in a car crash where their seatbelt saves their life and who would otherwise have been inclined not to wear it were it not for the fact that its 'the law'. Lets f... |

A lot of work is happening on PT, but it's never going to replace the car unless it is nationalised and not run for profit. That's not going to happen in the near future. Peyote, are you old enough to remember British Railways/British Rail? Nationalised (tick), not run for profit (tick) - and truly... |

We seem to agree that public transport is really only a practical and economic option in larger towns and then principally for radial journeys at certain times of the day. Interestingly, the most prized and expensive parking spaces are in town centres which seems to confound the above. I'm not sure... |

Why ever are the signs cranked in over the pavements? Is it possible to have a 20mph ZONE but the legally enforceable limit is 30mph? What idiot installed these? I think thats it Malcolm, i.e. a 30 mph enforcebale limit but a requested/advised/wanted speed zone of 20mph. Just how much confusion do ... |

Poor people dont pay less for their beer, ciggies, petrol or to have ther electrics fixed or tap washers replaced. Why (in principle) should they pay less to have their bins emptied?? Well, people don't have to buy beer, ciggies or petrol, but the do have to pay tax. If it is mandated by acts of go... |

Yes, it's probably unpopular to say it but the "Poll Tax" is probably the most just system for local taxation as people use local services - not property. Everyone should pay something towards local services as they then feel involved and the mentality of "something for nothing"... |

Well, you see what I'm getting at - it's a nightmare. Its not only a nightmare, its completely and utterly bloody stupid! What constitutes a parking space? A tarmaced area with marked bays? A patch of rough ground within the land owned by the business that can accomodate 15 or 20 cars depending on ... |

“If you have to pay to park at work it will make you think twice about whether you should be commuting by car.” No it won't, bollock-squeezing fuel charges haven't done that, so nor will car parking charges. It may make a few glance at the bus timetables and realise that the patchy and feeble syste... |

if it means you cant stay in your lane then your skill is too low! Or maintain a consistent speed. On motorways this is the most common manifestation that I see of loss of driving concentration whilst using a mobile phone. Many start to slow down gradually until they are travelling well below the p... |

Of course the question here is why you didnt wear the belt on the airfied? Strictly speaking we were supposed to, but there was a caveat in the regs (at that time on the units I worked on) that allowed you to go beltless for short journeys if you were going to be in and out of the vehicle. And whil... |

I'm sure I've used this example before (senility, thy name is Johnny), but if you frequently drive in a situation where belt-use isn't required, it's very easy to get out of the habit. I spent a year or two working airside at Heathrow, where belts are not required, but dipped beam is, and so when d... |

There was an enormous thread on seatbelts last year in which buckets full of stats were chucked about proving and disproving that seatbelts claim more lives than they save and vice versa.

Does anyone else find, that instead of the usual quick glance at the speedo to check approximate speed, (the reason analogue gauges survive the digital age, instant clear readings), the find themselves carefully refocussing and staring at the thing like a s**t chucking ape everytime they pass a sca... |

Has anyone ever been fined when they HAVEN'T been speeding..... Probably, although a lot more have been fined when they claim they weren't speeding. Note that the two are not the same thing but I seriously doubt you will get fined if the camera imagery shows you weren't speeding. What may happen, a... |
