"Failing to renew" is an offence. "Driving whilst untaxed" is also an offence, but a different offence, therefore legal. You would have got this one by being caught by the police - before that DVLA didn't know whether you had the car on the road. So sorry, but I think it's correct - but of course no...

1. JCBs doing a steady 25 in an NSL and wondering why there's a queue behind them.

2. People who whinge about 4x4s without ever having driven one.

But mainly people who moan on and on and on and on about other road users!!

Fortunately I carry a tyre inflator in my 4x4 - and if I find someone playing with my tyres I know exactly what I will be doing with it

Dual carriageway roundabouts seem to be a complete disaster from a safety point of view! I live near the Brampton Hut roundabout (A1/A14 interchange) which as well as 2 major 2 lane dual carriageways also has a service station. The white paint markings have been almost entirely obliterated, the sign...

I think that their "logic" is that if vehicles are slower, then they tend to "bunch" as they do not need to keep to the previous braking distance - hence at a slower speed, you can fit more cars per kilometre lane!

And as long as you carefully ignore all other factors - it's true!!

The scamera operatives probably think they would be too easy a target when it's dark!

As the vast majority of UK drivers/passengers wear seat belts, should they be fitted in UK cars? I guess it's best to ask people who've had their faces redesigned by dashboards and steering wheels. That's a really helpful remark - introduce emotion and hysteria into what started as a serious questi...

It always make me smile when I see the list of roads that they are planning to hit. Just what do they think they are warning us about!

For example - - how long is the M4?

Is it just a sop to make us think they are working with the motorist instead of against them?

It's now easy to check the accuracy of your speedo - most if not all GPS devices have a speed calculation figure which to all practiucal purposes is precise so long as you are maintaining a steady speed in an area with a decent satellite signal. My (grey Japanese import) speedo was almost exactly 10...

Perhaps venturi flow of fluid mechanics might be a better analogy - where mass flow rate is equivalent to the traffic flow rate of x vehicles/hour. Put crudely, it means that for the traffic flow to remain constant, speed in the obstruction must necessarily increase. Obviously this can only happen ...

Observer wrote: Your ball bearings and funnel is a false analogy because the two or three lanes leading to a road constriction are completely different to the opening of a funnel. It might be over simplifying things but I don't think it is false a larger quantity has to get through a smaller gap so...

I know that airbags originated in the USA as they were refusing to wear seatbelts, and that a large number of people automatically think that they are "a good thing", but has there actually been any serious research into whether they are actually "a good thing?" For example - how many go off when th...

Yup! And where those signs don't exist, remember how sensible it is to do it, drive to the latest point and merge in turn anyway. Is that so difficult to understand? It seems that although we are all in agreement it is the sensible thing to do, while there are still people who need to be told, it i...

I am amazed! I thought this site was for open discussion of "interesting" driving topics - and so far this thread has been little other than bigoted ranting - on both sides of the argument! I stil maintain that the main point of all this has been missed - if the traffic is relatively light - there i...

An interesting debate! Certainly the "Zip Merge" signage would help dramatically - if not cure the problem completely - but in all honesty, can you see such a thing being introduced? I think it would be as likely as a Minimum speed limit through roadworks! Until (if?) it is, then I am with the truc...
