Possible saviour for you is the snow. I could be wrong, but all the SPECS I've seen scan the front number plate. With the current weather conditions, these are often covered by snow at the moment so you might be saved on that count. Maybe?

whilst reducing congestion Hmm, not sure about this. Since the SPECS cameras monitoring the A1 upgrade in N Yorks have been installed, the congestion has got considerable worse. This is especially noticable when joining this section at any point. Now, due to the power of speed cameras, the traffic ...

After reading this thread and myself heading though sets of SPECs regularly now on the N Yorks A1 upgrade, I had a thought after seeing the same effect of cars braking for the Yellow Vultures. Do they think that they take an average of the speeds when passing each camera? e.g. Over a set of 3 camera...

Travelling on DC stretch of the A1 in relatively light traffic. Me in outside lane, passing a black Astra (new one, if that makes a difference) at around 75 (ahem! My speedo over-reads...). In front of the Astra by a fair distance is a lorry, which he is closing on slowly. As I reach Astra's rear bu...

And it was occupying the cycle lane I wish people wouldn't think that a red piece of road qualifies for a cycle lane. This is one of the major irritations of road "planning" that I see around and it can surely only lead to problems rather than solving any. In this example it's not as bad ...

Traffic Cops on iplayer (http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00d1qd6/) Following an accident where a car driven by an elderly gent hit a boy on a bike, the driver admits to panic and hitting the accelerator rather than the brake when taking evasive action. Now, this is where the revelation comes i...

This show winds me up immensely. Among the things I have seen / heard that have made me :furious: - Would you walk in front people firing at an archery range? No, but is it really any more dangerous than turning right at a rural junction? - This crazed driver (or similar) pays no attention to the ru...

Just been watching the above show online on ITV. The episode focuses on speeding drivers (http://www.itv.com/CatchUp/Video/default.html?ViewType=5&Filter=15721) and is full of things to make you scream at the monitor. 1 in 3 of all road deaths are related to speeding...not surprising considering...

Can't say I've ever done it to the extent of driving for 5 miles and not realising, but it has happened momentarily whereby I have realised that I don't know exactly what is around me as much as I would like to. For example, a car has appeared behind me and I realise that I obviously haven't checked...

It also entails converting the hard shoulder into a running lane and, from 2010, turning one lane into a toll lane with a higher speed limit. The DfT says that compliance with the limit is essential when the hard shoulder is not available for breakdowns. The DfT is also considering making the outsi...

So when I seen this car behind me I was very scared putting my car into high speed (120-135 mph) after travelling ten miles I had to slow down for a quick turn off which the car behind caught up with me. I was more relieved than anything to see it was the cops in a well marked car. If I read this c...

I don't wear glasses, so that's not a problem. As for my driving position, I can't do a lot about that really and it's fine in my Pug! I'm 5'7" with fairly short legs so I am naturally going to be sitting closer to the steering wheel than taller people, but I tend to sit as far back as possible...

I own and drive a humble 1999 Peugeot 306. In recent months, I have been looking to buy a more modern car with a view to family driving and improved reliability and safety etc... As such, I have test driven a few new cars - the latest being a Toyota Auris. 5 stars Euro NCAP rating, but in my view un...

Awful, awful idea / concept. I refer you to http://www.safespeed.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16665 as just one example of non-fatal near misses that could have had disastrous consequences if such a system was in place. Imagine if you were overtaking one of the "I travel 50mph everywhere but ov...

My tuppence worth: Just to say I fully understand the frustration of the situation described and how tempting it is to follow the car in front overtaking through, despite the possible dangers. I have experienced a very similar situation myself on an A-road where I was 3rd in a line of traffic behind...

Another possible interpretation of the Focus braking suddenly: Rather than being aggressive, is it possible that the driver was simply a nervous one and, upon seeing and possibly being dazzled by lights behind them, got edgy and slowed down more than they should have done given the circumstances? I ...

Agreed - but the worst of these, at least on the rural roads I do much of my driving on, is the "Oh my God there's a car coming the other way - BRAKE!" brigade - who are positively dangerous rather than just annoying. I'm used to them by now, and allow them even more space than usual, but...

This is slowly becoming one of my pet peeves on our roads. Unnecessary braking on all roads. I do most of my driving on minor A roads (if that makes sense) and B-roads and I frequently seem to end up behind someone who: brakes whenever something comes the other way (especially at night) brakes for g...

One of the worst "investigations" I have seen on TV since....well, the last Tonight I watched about driving, probably. Who on earth would think about counting out 87pence of coins whilst reversing into a parking space? The whole argument at the end seemed to be based on not even being able...
