I clicked on the link - Where did they get their annual mileage figures from. They seem completely at odds with other research. I suspect that the bikes over 500cc have a very wide standard deviation, ranging from sports bikes with less than 1,500 per year to tourers who do 8-9k per year. I think on...

There is a video on Youtube of it - it is clearly giving false readings on cars as they come in to view.

To be honest I think they got it about right with the two part CBT and DAS or 125 test. I think the could scrap all the other requirements because a Learner has a lot to learn as it is and the off road testing is really pushing beyond what the learner test should be about. i.e. a licence to continue...

So disappointed with sales the manufacturers get doctors to call for them to be made compulsory. I think they have merit if they are nothing more than inflatable armour and perhaps inflate no more than 5 or 6 cm. but some inflate 10 or 15 cm. Forget trying to create an airbag for bikes and concentra...

A couple of comments.. Speedy2 - a bike that is cornering or leaned over does not automatically have less grip. In fact modern Variable belt tyres will typically produce more grip wet and dry. Add the fact that a lot of tyres have an arched profile, could mean you even have a greater contact patch w...

If you filter with your main beam on don't be surprised that people crash in to you because they cannot properly judge your speed and distance. Secondly filtering between a van and lorry - I think I'd only do this if they were both stopped. Its very high risk passing between two large vehicles for t...

We shouldn't confuse the difference between having a high exposure to risk and being high risk. I for example have a very high exposure to risk as I ride 12,000 miles per year mostly in urban city commuting. Despite being a senior obs for the iam and bike safe trainer that gives me roughly the same ...

or perhaps its the lack of overtaking skills that are the problem.

few drivers know the difference between 2 and 3 stage overtaking and when you should use it.

but there is a difference between lolly licking and obeying the HWC.

and sadly the guilty party is nearly always on a sports bike.

because sports bikes are popular? or because sports bike riders are risk seekers? or they like technical roads etc?

Its a bit like saying silver Mercedes drivers are more likely to cut you up than red ones.

I think I know what he means as he relates the 'where you want to go' literally to a left turn in which case turning left would be where you wanted to go. But turn into the skid is a simple tip that the masses may understand but my point is that this is the same advice they give for cars, yet cars ...

Sounds reasonable, the context of my advice was with regard to 'exploring limits' Although even the basics of advanced riding theory are useful. Had I not done a course all those years ago, I probably would never have learned to slow on the approach to a bend, get in the right gear and drive round o...

BBC1 mentioned the safespeed campaign on this mornings breakfast interview of a barrister who was commenting on Swindons plans to scrap all its speed cameras. The council claims they don't save lives and are a waste of £400k. Safespeed was mentioned as one of the leading road safety campaign groups ...

there are a couple of trickier questions in there and some which are just plane wrong. e.g. the advice to steer in to a skid is rubbish on a motorbike, because bikes are articulated, so as long as you keep the front pointing where you want to go, you don't need to steer in to the skid, or roll off ...

I think the latest sports motorcycles are deadly and should be banned, or at least restricted to a special license holder, certainly not a DAS graduate. In fact, I think the best thing that could happen to motorcycling would be the abolition of DAS and a staged system that restricts to a 125 for a ...

tyres might be the obvious candidate as they will be coated in release agent when still brand new, though a good fitter will at least try to clean this off. But the cause is a number of things. 1, cold, new tyres - low grip 2, heavy throttle hand - he opens the taps almost immediately 3, he leans un...
