My original point was, to put it in simple terms that you can understand, that just because 90% of the population do something that does not necessarily make it a good thing to do. You know, I was going to reply with a really patronising, gratuitous insult, but then I decided not to sink to your le...

Now you're talking about unjust and immoral laws, which is the exact opposite of your original point.

Can you give any real-world examples of moral absolutes which have been in any danger of being overridden by mass disobedience?

The cash donations of motorists have been mentioned but no mention of costs. If the paper wish to use the term "cash-cow" then at least they could mention somewhere that there is a cost to the collection of that cash but they never do. That, in my opinion, is manipulation. If you don't se...

...and then someone has extended the period by 9 years to 12 to look for that other KSI and a period of low or no KSI collisions to lower the average. OK, let's compare apples with apples then. There were no more than three fatalities in the nine years prior to the camera, and four in the same peri...

so if there is a problem (not just speeding), ae you suggesting that the powers the be sit on their haunches for 10 yrs to see if the problem goes away If you're trying to measure something then you need to wait until there's something to measure. If you believe otherwise then would you kindly give...

If there were three events in a ten year period prior to the implementation of some policy and only one in the subsequent ten years would you say that the improvement could be explained by RTTM? I would say it's very likely that it could be explained by RTTM if, a) most or all of the three events i...

Where is your letter to Professor Allsop to explain away his finding of benefits of speed enforcement treatment; is that too risky for your unproven theories? You mean like this little snippet from his paper? It is strongly supported by the laws of motion, which imply undeniably that higher speed j...

for the area i initially thought was M5 northbound 23 -22, theres a 4 lane stetch ie, inside lane crawler but at the merge point lane 4 to 3 merge rather than 1-2, an easy solution to repair IMO but 23 -22 is straight and flat, i dont have any idea how a multi car pile up occured on two days Can yo...

That was as an attempt to explain misconceptions about RTTM to someone. Have you never used a hypothetical situation as an example to explain something?

but the links above show 2 accidents in or around the same location on two consecutive days, i initially thought the location was a very nasty stetch of the M5 where the outside lane lane merges with the third lane very suddenly, no advance warning due to the split level nature of the road, but goo...

The mean after treatment is now much lower than the mean before treatment and below the long term trend at most fixed sites. How's this for an example: At a particular site, they record 2 KSI's per year for three years. In the following year they record an uncharacteristic 6 KSI's. They then introd...

GS, you have that exactly 180 degrees the wrong way round. The cameras were installed in response to higher than normal casualty figures. When, as was almost guaranteed to happen, the casualty figures returned to their (lower) long-term mean, (the RTTM effect) the decrease was attributed to the came...

...or can it be argued the numbers have fallen due to the drivers being banned

That's just not feasible - unless you believe that in the order of 20% of all drivers were banned.
The most likely explanation is that more and more drivers got to know about the camera.
