IMO there is nothing wrong with the mobile phone law, you cannot tell me that you all believe it is safe and acceptable to drive down the road at speed dialling a number or searching for a stored number or even texting as you go... i had the pleasure recently of spending a day on road with GMP motor...

I forsee 1 inherant problem.

for it to work in the uk you need someone who can presumably shoot straight....at speed from a moving vehicle, safely, without endangering either himself or other road user or the public...

Whilst i dont question that article as posted, the content of the article in the Daily Mail appears to be composed of articles from as far back as 2004 posted by the telegraph, abd and other sources. The insurance crackdown in GMP started in November in a blaze of publicity and as most newspapers ar...

I am confused by your comments, Firstly where are you stats of 25% of ANPR hits being errors, i work with 4 large forces in the NW and the use of ANPR is for enforcement of criminality, not for recording movements, for example, the Greater Manchester Police are using the system for active roadchecks...

What it is going to come down to is: 1. was he authorised to do a high speed test run to familiarise himself with the vehicle. 2. was he displaying blue lights on the vehicle. if the answer to the above is yes then he should be cleared as there was a law lords ruling about police officers training u...

Forum: Improving Road Safety   Topic: Icy "Speed Plateau" despite grit

Gritting is a grey area.. there is a fine balance on when to grit and how much grit to use, because you need vehicles to force the grit into the road surface and unfortunately most of the traffic calming schems have surfces that dont allow the grit to penetrate thus there is your problem. Yes i agre...

In the NW the cushion vehicles are used for roadworks, but for the motorway network all temporary roadworks( and there are lots every night ) are normally coned with "workforce in road slow on matrix signs, these signs are set while the coning is set, now if you havent seen contractors cone out you ...

Just to echo the point made , these have been in force for many years on the m6 in the midlands, and the pilot junctions in the Northwest are identified as suitable junctions to test. Also these lights can be easilt turned off if they are causing problems on the surrounding infrastructure. Remember ...

for information. buying road tax online you are advised to print the reciept and keep it in the vehicle until the disc arrives, it took 48hrs for my new disc to arrive in the post after purchasing it online. I work with the police and they say this is sufficient as the ANPR database they use is real...

The ACOPS policy is to minimise lane 1 closures unless specifically required, it isnt advisable to change an o/s tyre on the motorway for obvious reasons because you can never discount what will cross the marginal strip. However i also believe that motorway users should ensure that they have suitabl...

there is only 1 reason why the vsl is there enforced by cameras. Where a matrix signal displays an advisory speed on a motorway it is just that advisory, and 99% of the populus dont even react to this. where a vsl displays a speed it is mandatory and is therefore enforced. There are similar systems ...

Whilst this thread has some valid points, accident investigation is an integral part of the process of dealing with motorway accidents... However there are some other factors to be considered. 1. Accident scenes are treated as crime scenes, so where a simple non-injury bump occurs there should be no...

The support units you describe are "Incident Support Units" their job is to make carriageways safe after motorway incidents like bumps and shunts, etc. They do not have the power to close the lane on thier own, this must be authorised via Highways Agency RCC and the motorway Police authority, so the...
