I would disagree with the proposition that there is a finite upper bound on impact speed even for our 35 mph free travelling speed (was that supposed to be a 30 or 40 limit?). Excluding artificial factors, a significant proportion of vehicles will be in the 55mph bracket. Some (1 in 10000???) may ev...

I sugest that the question may be slightly counter-intuitive, since it is an attempt only to analyse accidents which have occured, not situations where accidents have been avoided. I'd go for something like the df=3 line on this page http://www.math2.org/math/stat/distributions/chi-dist.htm I don't ...

Not only does enforement need to be apropriate, but the law needs to be apropriate as well. It's all very well saying it's in place to protect road users, but that isn't really the case any more. We've had admissions that speed limits are being reduced to provide social engineering, and more general...

Insurance companies also ask witnesses explicitly if they think cars were going too fast. I said 'no' for the one where a car started braking too late to avoid a stationary vehicle in the middle of the road...

Post cameras, obviously we need some sort of controls on speed, since there are still plenty of people who regularly exceed a sensible safe speed much of the time. I suspect that most people wouldn't be too concrened how this is done, so long as the overall result is that the number of tickets issue...

You're not very clear about whether you're expecting a NIP, or have any points yet, but I don't think this rule is a particularly bad one. The comparison with your uncle isn't realy relevant - as a new driver, you will still be learning about how a vehicle handles and what other drivers can do to tr...

This had an immediate effect on my driving, even on the journey home I was much more careful Last time I was lasered, it had the oposite effect, cause I was so angry at their excuse (some local show, so they expected plenty of traffic on the A1M past peterborough. About 1 car per mile at the time, ...

and CJB to add to your last point what's wrong with "your" or my tax maintaining cycle specific road furniture? As I see it the more cycle friendly the roads are the more people are going to turn to bikes to get to work and the easier motorists are going to be able to get though traffic. Exactly......
