I dont agree with this - those responsible for law enforcement should never be given a financial incentive to maximise the revenue from fines. That will inevitably distort enforcement priorities. :yesyes: Exactly. Actually, it's better than the current situation. At the moment (pre April 1st 2007) ...

Sorry I find them a darn nuisance. When driving, particularly on the motorway when flanked by BMWs. Without dipping side mirrors, the glare IS enough to cause an accident. If you think they make it difficult to see when your using a car with 50 watt halogen headlamps, have a think about how hard it ...

I didn't agree with the road pricing petition that has recently dominated the media, just because there is not enough information on what the road pricing policy would be to weigh it up with. However it did inspire me to create a petition of my own. Tired of people moaning about speed cameras and ho...

At some red traffic lights and while the pedestrian lights we...

I trust driving at 55 mph is acceptable as this is the most economical speed for many cars? And what about the situation where, with local knowledge, you know you are going to hit a queue before the next major junction so there is not point at driving at any more than 40 mph? By slowing down a bit y...

I've not read properly through the last two pages. There is too much there. I can see speculation that there is some underlying reason why I was originally pulled over or some underlying reason why I was convited that has not already been mentioned here or anywhere else. (And that is indeed why the ...

Ed, can you clear this up then? Was it in the prosecution's skeleton argument that you should have been on the path? The prosecutions argument was more that I was cycling in a considerate manner by using the main part of the carriageway. They did mention the cycle path but it wasnt a major part of ...

There seems to be a misunderstanding here. I read a lot of stuff from the original charge and a couple of reports from people the courtroom, hopefully I can clear that up. [...] As this wasn't the prosecution's argument, it seems the defence was caught unawares and thinking on its feet. It did not ...

Mr. Franklin is an expert on cycling infrastructure, thus he was able to comment on the cycle path, as well give evidence on other aspects of the case.

Why has Galaxy7 been banned? I'm referring to the judge's summing up. I wasn't found guilty by the judge on account of my positioning, even if it is why the police conducted the stop check. As stated earlier in this thread, I was not riding in the primary position. I wasn't riding in the primary or ...

I have been using an alternative route since the judgement (which has it's own problems not to mention adding a further half mile to my journey) because the shared use cycle/pedistrian alongside that road on which I was stopped is actually worse than I thought. The road maybe NSL for the moment, but...

Road is 10'6" wide which makes passing cyclists unsafe no matter the position they ride them. Given the acceleration and braking between the two roundabouts on this short half mile stretch, I would expect the average speed of a car to be less than the NSL, considerably less at busy times such as at ...

As a car owner and driver I'm no car-hating freak. I may have concerns over poor drivers which I have aired on occasion along with other views I have on other issues. The piece of road concerned national speed limit, half a mile long between two 30 mph speed limits. I don't use it on windy days, but...

Lycra was created for the female form only, remember this!!!! yep... For me, that cycling gear is function above form. Is it comfortable? Does it wick away moisture or does it leave me drenched in sweat? Does it make me well seen? I unashamedly wear lycra. Anything baggy chafes after 10 or so miles.

It would be interesting to look at high visibility high contrasting clothing (as high-visibility clothing in itself is in some circumstances rendered ineffective, e.g. in significant glare) as compared to the use of lights. I tend to use a bright rear flashing LED in all but the brightest of conditi...

We need to do something to stop them wondering into the cycle part of a shared pedestrian/cyclist facility with a white line down the middle. In all seriousness, an L-test, taxation and registration number on motoris...

What difference should riding two abreast on a bend make? Cyclists riding two abreast are perceived as an inconvenience to drivers wishing to overtake. Given that, as per the current rule 139, drivers should allow horses, mopeds and cyclists as much room as a car when they overtake, therefore in mos...
