Hi EssexRob The M4 is down to 50mph between the M32 and just past the Almondsbury Interchange. For your journey, you will be stuck with the SPECS cameras from J19 (that's the M32) through J20 (the M5) and south as far as J17 of the M5 (that's Cribbs Causeway). In total that's a distance of approxima...

This appeared in another thread: "The real problem is not with the slow driver, in fact I would take issue with a driver driving outside of their comfort zone. What I do have a problem with is those who tailgate a slow motorist, if you want to go faster, OVERTAKE, or learn how to. By tailgating...

Interesting subject. I drive a 1998 Passat 1.8 turbo which, despite it's age and it's 203,000 miles, still goes like the proverbial off a shovel (and is great for overtaking). However I have recently acquired a 2001 vw transporter van 1.9td which is super-cool but, it has to be said, is something of...

I have to say what angers me the most is having to pay in a hospital car park. If you've brought a sick friend/relative into A&E (as I have had to do), the last thing on your mind (quite rightly) is having to feed a bloody parking meter, and having to make sure you have enough change to do so. A...

I'm sorry but .... what's the point? The old saying springs to mind: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" I was a passenger in one some while ago, and my first thought was "this is all very sexy stuff, but in 10 years time, when the car's done 100K, how much of this stuff is still going ...

I reckon this has a lot to do with brake lights .... the lights alone don't tell the driver behind how much pressure you've put on the brake pedal and seeing brake lights on a motorway does tend, I believe, to induce some sort of mild panic! (On my old Xantia, the light switch was in the pedal rubbe...

I had a similar thing a couple of weeks ago - biker indicated to change lane on a dual carriageway (big bike, not sure what though) and although it wasn't a near miss or anything, I didn't see the indicator. The only way I knew what he was doing was when I saw him do his "lifesaver".

OK having had too many glasses of vino I suggest the following....... Respect your fellow road users . They have just as much (no more and no less) right to use the road as you do. Most of them are pretty decent folk. (apart from the odd muppet)..... This may sound strange, but (particularly on moto...

Okay here's another one.... I have had the discussion with mrs groovemeister and we can't agree (although she still holds a provisional licence, so I'm right  I'm approaching a roundabout, wanting to take the 9 o'clock exit. traffic is backed up (it's rushhour) and it's all queueing to take...

Do excuse me I've had a few too many glasses of red wine this evening ..... I remember driving to a gig in Monmouth, with fellow band members and musical instruments in the car. Travelling up A40 from M4 towards Monmouth and L2 is closed 800 yards ahead. All traffic piles into L1, leaving L2 clear f...

I honestly think that they are safer in modern cars with 80plus bhp, disc brakes, better handling and all that's before we start mentioning the "electronic" safety gadgets and air bags etc. I suspect they feel safer, but is there the possibility that if you're driving a "safe" c...

This is pretty much the same as the thread I started a couple of weeks or so ago

I personally like the idea, although as you will see, there are good arguments for and against.

Somebody once said (I can't remember if it was here or on another forum) that if we allow local authorities to continue building speed bumps, then before long they will all join up and we will once again be able to enjoy uninterrupted motoring ... albeit 4 inches higher than before. Bring it on!

Hello, Just been thinking about this (it may already have been suggested elsewhere) How about a tiered driving licence system something like this: Level 1 - the equivalent of a provisional licence. After passing the "basic" driving test, you get a Level 2, which would allow you to drive lo...

I think the one I struggle with is this: being dual carriageway, there are two lanes on the approach as well as two lanes on the "straight ahead" exit. So the rule I tend to follow is: To turn left, approach in L1 To turn right, approach in L2 To go straight ahead, approach in either lane,...

Hello again Just a quick question about behaviour at roundabouts.... The situation is this: You're on an 'A' road approaching a roundabout. The roundabout is a typical 4 pronged one, the second exit being the continuation of the A road, whilst the first and third exits are B roads. So ... Those driv...

Some interesting points here.
But, after all the analysis of the video etc and going back to basics, it seems to me that the owner of the car doesn't appear to be quite so stupid as to go to all those lengths to prove his innocence if he actually was doing 98mph........ :)

Saw this report on the telly this evening and thought you guys and gals might enjoy it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7840369.stm What a result! But listen at approx 1:20 into the report: "The police offered to prosecute him at the reduced speed of 80mph" :? F**king unbelievable! Sad ...

Hello. Can anyone offer me any advice on this? I had, until a short while ago, an 18 year old micra (a second car to use as a runabout). The tax and MOT both expired at the end of October. On 7th November, I took it in for MOT and it failed terminally. I then brought it home and parked it outside my...
