You could get yourself a fixed wheel bike. I bought one on Sunday and rode it to work and back today and I can already feel myself going up the hills faster. Having to keep a reasonable speed without the option of changing down a gear helps a lot. Using your legs to brake builds up muscle too.

I cycle a lot, mostly to work and back (maybe 100 miles a week, sometimes a bit more). There are no cycle paths of any sort, and I wouldn't use them if there were. I'm cycling to get from a to b, not to fanny around looking at the scenery with my family. I ride at an average of nearly 20mph, with a ...

I don't put cars through MOTs any more, unless I'm reasonably sure they'll pass. Last year I bought a Volvo 240 estate for £130 off ebay, and ran it for 10 months until the MOT ran out. I then bought a Volvo 480 with 12 months' MOT and will break the 240 and sell the bits. It's the cheapest way to r...

It often takes the same time to negotiate my local motorway junctions than it does to actually make the motorway journey. That includes 11pm at night, thanks to getting stopped by three consecutive sets of traffic lights on a simple roundabout interchange! Bring back part time signals ! Absolutely....

Quite a good response, if you do come up against some jobsworth who says "I don't make the rules". is to say "no, you merely enforce them without flexibility, initiative or intelligence". Rather like these two wardens by the sound of it. I mean, I'm not a fan of pigeons either and I'd never feed the...

The controversial scheme has already proved a success in Holland So has legalised prostitution, liberal drug laws and euthinasia. But do we want them over here. Don't forget. Holland is the only country in Europe that you can legaly kill someone. I already operate pretty liberal drug laws in my fla...

I got an indicated 125 mph out of my Volvo 480 turbo on the M40 once. Bit scary...it's only a hairdresser's car, after all I like to sit around 80 - 90 as a rule, given reasonable conditions. I'm also quite happy around 65. It all depends. |
