It was no surprise that L1 was almost empty, meaning that a few chancers were undertaking a dozen cars at a time if anyone in L2 left a decent gap in front, making it even more frustrating for the rest of us, as the resulting bunch caused stop-start to set in. I'd quite happily be one of those &quo...

HGV's ( fitted with speed limiters ) are the worst culprits on the four lane section of the M6 northbound between the A59 and M55 at Preston. Ignorant HGV drivers often pull out as far as the third lane for no good reason up to a mile before the M55 junction starts proper even if the traffic is fai...

While I would not restrict lorries to the inside lane only, I can't see the point in lorries overtaking one another on these roads where they are both limited to about 56mph. What gain is there to the overtaker? One mile per hour? If the slower lorry is doing 45-50mph then OK, but this would not pr...

I'd love to be a middle-lane hog. Really!!? Actually, I can quite believe you would. I would have thought that you of all people would have at least understood the implications of such a move...I was obviously wrong! Let me explain: If you drive in, or "hog" the middle lane of a three lan...

Having spent yesterday going up and down the A34 from Andover to Oxford, I'm with you on the elephant races. Spent I would estimate 50% of the journey back sitting in queues of 20 cars in L2 at 56 mph waiting for one lorry to finish trying to overtake another lorry. Utter selfishness. I would agree...

It really infuriates me, but I think I've worked out why they do it. I think they go to a special school, and when they graduate they get a trophy. Not sure where the original trophy came from but I think was intoduced by someone called R. Sole. On the trophy it says: "This trophy is presented ...

Oddly, the DVLA still refer to it as road tax(road fund licence), perhaps because that's how most of us see it, but your quite right tho'. However, refering to my question, if there were 30 million 'green' cars, then where would all that road building money come from?

That's a very good question actually. You'll notice there's no reply. But here's another one. jomukuk obviously relies upon the matrix signs to ensure safer driving. Could he lack the initiative? In other words, if he's driving through heavy rain, does he need a sign to tell him there's 'SURFACE WAT...

...I don't know if this is the first car to do this but, the new Seat Ibiza Ecomotive 1.4 Tdi has a CO2 emission of just 99g/km, and qualifies for zero road tax (tax band A). That's free, gratis and for nothing! Now, I'm all for abolishing road tax the same as the next person, we pay enoug...

graball, don't go down the same road I did, you'll only get frustrated. jomukuk makes a good point, It's just that he makes it badly. His statement about a red traffic light is a good example. To stop at a red light at the top of a slip road before entering a roundabout means exactly that. No other ...

Right, I'm calling it a day on this. And on the other thread (56 or 60). Clearly by your replies on both threads you are anti lorry and will never concede to a sensible post, let alone agree with it. No one will ever 'win' an argument with you because you believe everything you read and therefore al...

It would appear that jomukuk doesn't believe that gantry signs CAN display wrong information or information that is totally irrelevent to the conditions at the time! .....hello.....the speed limit for trucks on EVERY single carriageway in England is 40mph for TRUCKS.....and 50 on dual carriageways....

Of course, if your firm wants you to stick to 56mph as a matter of policy, well that's another matter, but you're NOT breaking the law. Unless in doing so you are getting in someone else's way, or "inconsiderate driving"? We can only do 56mph on a motorway. How can we be getting in someone...

The point is NOT that people pay them no attention because they see no reason for them, the point is that even if there WAS a reason they would still pay them no attention. Oh dear... It is you that is missing the point. As an HGV driver I regularly use the M42, a motorway with the most blatant mis...

Right, in answer to the question. The speed limit on motorways is 60mph. Period. You must have a limiter fitted to an HGV. Period. The two have no connection whatsoever in the UK. It's European legislation. As long as the limiter is working you can allow your lorry to go up to 60mph for as long as y...
