That £250 excess is surely a third-party liability and so your GF's insurance should pay up or fight - along with other grand's-worth. AFAICT they can't both have her NCD and pass on the liability for the third-party's excess.

Hope this makes sense ...

Personally, I wish the numpties around me would secure (and preferably hide) their WiFi access points because my laptop grabs the strongest signal (which is usually one of my neighbour's) and although I can browse the Internet, I can't access my own network resources. Although I've "told" ...

Well I have just sold both our cars a Range Rover TDi and a BMW 1 series ... The new car is a Prius yes we have gone green Oh no you haven't. You've swapped what is potentially one of the most eco-friendly cars for something much worse. That TDi Rangie would run almost carbon-neutrally on SVO or bi...

At the very least, traffic calming makes roads more dangerous for one of the most vulnerable groups - cyclists. Pinch points, chicanes, and "speed bumps" all present considerable danger. For example, it is unsafe for a car to pass a cyclist at a pinch point but, unless the cyclist physical...

The whole idea that there are a load of Mr Magoos out there driving blindly just isn't supported by the crash stats. Agreed. However, I've seen enough examples of poor driving where I suspect the driver has below the minimum standard of eyesight. Most often, the driver is elderly and so poor eyesig...

Paul: I'd be interested in why you feel colour vision is so important. After all, there is no requirement to even notify DVLA about any colour vision defect, even completely monochromatic vision. IMHO, colour vision should go right at the bottom (or be completely excluded). I've just got one anecdo...

Yeah but what about DIY servicing like I do? ... In my view, I like the "independence" of the VOSA test AND I think all MOT stations should be banned from offering to do work on cars that they fail! By "authorised service centre", I mean DfT/VOSA-authorised, not main dealerships...

Personally, I think that annual testing is a very poor substitute for proper servicing. Manufacturer's know the MTBF for the safety-critical bits of their product and have written service schedules accordingly. Where they've got it wrong, there is the recall system (albeit somewhat in disarray becau...

Thanks IG, all noted. I've just got to get a little thicker skinned, I guess. I don't feel guilty taking the primary at pinch points, so I shouldn't in this (just as dangerous) situation - but somehow I do :( I think the reason you feel guilty - and the reason that you should choose with care and c...

I'm not sure which side of the fence I am with this. I suspect that it's a back door route to further the wishes of certain politicians to ban all vehicles over ten years old and that with the new tests will come more-stringent requirements that only newer vehicles can pass. Since I'm very much in f...

I'm more worried about eyesight defects like tunnel vision than actual focus / resolution issues. I think you're absolutely correct there. I know of someone who is registered blind because of severe tunnel vision but who can pass the standard driving eye test if wearing glasses. The fact that all s...

Thanks, Paul. I believe that the rise of bad driving by bus drivers is in significant part due to planning and road regulations that favour buses. The drivers start to think they are more important than other road users and this imbalances the priority question in marginal cases. TBH, my experience ...

Why is it that many bus drivers are too impatient to wait a few seconds? I've lost count of the times I've approached a bus stop with a bus a short distance behind and, rather than following me into the bus stop, the bus has overtaken me, pulled in, and stopped just a few feet in front of me. Surely...

Actually there is pretty well a prima facae case of speeding against the Taxi driver. I doubt it! You have to take into account speedo error and the approximation that "around" implies. There's diddly-squat against the taxi driver, but the evidence of scammer hypocrisy is pretty damning. ...

I'd disagree that its valid in any way mate, the misuse of equations makes the results meaningless. :? What misuse? I've stated assertions and assumptions that the other cyclist made and which I accepted for the sake of the argument. It wasn't necessary to challenge those assertions, and so I didn'...

Heh, pressure = force/area is not valid to describe tyre pressures and how they affect contact areas, its about whether the elephant or the woman in stilettos does more damage to the wooden floor! Force = mass * acceleration, so the force exerted on the ground by the car/bike is equal to its mass m...
