Hi, first off, let me apologise if this has been asked/answered before, but I wasn't able to find it on a search. I live near the New Forest. On entering the forest area, the first thing to be encountered is a 40mph limit sign. This has no 'normal' repeaters subsequently, only yellow circles on the ...

Gentlemen, much as I hate to be a wet blanket and drag this back to its original point. . . . . . The reason behind the fiasco at this particular roundabout was the length of the 30 zone. Some mile before the works. Now, without wishing to appear to be 'having a go', FBT is talking in some posts abo...

As a comparative local to this site (Thickthorn interchange) you may be interested to know that the reduction to 30mph runs back from the roadworks for at least 1 mile! The only 'road works' that I have seen in action are all within a couple of hundred feet of the interchange. So, the question is: W...

So, presumably, the Bulgarians have a problem with Audis then. Or maybe they just don't like flash buggahs with A8s. Mind you , it is interesting to note what appears to be a slot for a starting handle on the grill ;-) though how much use that would be on a transverse engine remains to be seen (wait...

OK, I'll bite :) How will this work precisely? Self and Mrs Buckmac both have cars. We are each named drivers on other's policy - both policies fully comprehensive with the 'drive other vehicles' clause. Each car registered in our own names. With me so far? Good - keep up at the back there! So, Mrs ...

TPaC. Basic pursuit training. For obvious reasons I won't go into any more detail. WHAT Police will put up a road block and stop traffic for who knows how long just to facilitate a 'training exercise' :o <Victor_Meldrew_mode_on> I don't believe it <Victor_Meldrew_mode_off> You couldn't make ...

What shocks me more is how the terrorism act can be so fragrantly misused yet nothing happens. They don’t need a reason now do they. It’s all about big brother, It’s becoming obvious the government brought in the anti-terrorist law so that they don’t need excuses if and when they need to silence so...

The point wasn't that I find it annoying if the speed it set so slow that my Subaru gets a spurious warning, it's when it's set so low than even your archetypal pathetic car (Corsa, 2CV , Reliant Robin, whatever) gets a spurious warning. Oi! You leave the poor old 2CV alone! That car, even if it wa...

There's a few in Warwickshire that activate regardless of speed. One warns of a crossroads, the other of a sharp bend. Not sure of the road but if you drive from Banbury to Rugby (via Southam) you will encounter them both. There's at least one 50mph one in Oxfordshire that goes off regardless of sp...

I quite liked this comment:

Conductors on the streets will be linked to the information and can warn drivers of problems.

I thought they had gotten rid of conductors way back - all one man buses now. :D

There is also another worrying point - accuracy and reading distance - unless they're accurate they become a joke - unless they're picking up cars in a set distance they also become a joke. I don't know about the accuracy, but here in Norfolk there seem to be an awful lot that are set either at the...

Currently when I do venture out into the pubs and clubs of Burnley there is just a mass of people trying to get drunk as quickly as possible and then everybody staggers out at 2am all trying to get fed and get a taxi. However, as I'm sure is not unusual, there is simply not enough going around. Thi...

Mmm..... Some interesting replies. I do have a GMail account, but thanks for the offer of an invite anyway. Apparently they've opened it up in the US, don't know how long it'll be before it makes it over here. My concern about the ads is not their intrusiveness, but rather the fact that someone (or ...

I know this is not directly related to SafeSpeed, but the forum title does say any other topics :) I wonder if any others are a little bit alarmed by the furore over the introduction of GMail (and GoogleTalk) from Google? Isn't a dual carriageway automatically a 70 limit, even with lamp posts? If this is the case then there should be 30 mph repeaters along the length of the road. No. A dual-carriageway which isn't a motorway with streetlights and no repeaters automatically has a 30mph limit, just like any other non-...

Our box has earth leakage on all circuits, so every time a bulb blows we lose the complete circuit and occasionally the main trip goes too. PITB, but nothing we can do about it now. Most of the boxes I've come across recently have a series of trips which are effectively earth leakage trips. I found...

Fortunately not a big shock, and bloody glad it wasn't off a mains ring, though Sorry, am I missing something here?? Mains ring = 240V, Lighting circuit = 240V, the difference is in the fuse rating. Mains usually 13A while lighting usually 5A (or the equivalent in breakers) As an electrical enginee...

Ahh.. but for the short term there is a solution. Especially if you've moved fairly recently (or even if you haven't). AFAIK there are no date stamps or similar on the patresses or sockets you buy from C&R or A&P or wherever. Therefore, go ahead and fit them. If anyone subsequently...
