Does anyone know when the infernal roadworks around Newport will be complete? Coupled with the widening around Cardiff, completed a year or so ago, disruption has been ongoing for 3 to 4 years now. It seems that the Welsh authorities have a wish to stifle business and tourism in South Wales through ...

Are there any cars at all where the tax has been paid but this information is not logged on the government database against the numberplate of the car? If not, why bother with the tax discs at all? It is all waste now. Not that I agree with the tax at all. Yes, it happened to me a few years ago. I ...

I travelled east through that section last night. The traffic was moderately heavy but free flowing at 60 to 70mph. The main problem was those drivers who decided to stick rigidly to the 50mph limit in the middle lane of the long straight stretch between the High Cross and Cwmbran exits causing funn...

Johnny, A couple of years back we flew to Malaga, hired an open top car and drove over the mountains to Cadiz. It was, without exception, the very best long drive I have enjoyed. Do it out of season and there is still good weather, great roads and hardly any traffic. Bloody Brilliant. C. :) PS - An...

Thanks for the warrning. I was thinking of spending a week in the St Ives /Penzance area during June. As in Wales, the camera mafia seem determined to nail the coffin of the tourism business, so as my intention was a relaxing holiday I'll get a cheap fight out of the UK instead - and better weather ...

At last - a realisation (albeit in the US) that pedestrians have a part to play in their self-preservation, or face the consequences. http://www.boston.com/business/technology/articles/2007/02/07/new_york_may_ban_ipods_while_crossing_street/ I trust that the UK authorities will follow suit and also ...

Manchester? I've been there a couple of times, but I'd require the council to pay ME to go back there again. It's hardly a tourist destination.

I had "Mirror, Signal, Manoeveure" drummed into me. No exceptions, even for deserted roads as it was a good habit to keep up.

Nowadays it's mostly just "Manoeveure".

What makes me laugh is where my aunty lives is not far from a school. Residents around the area got up a petition to stop school runners from parking on the local roads causing mayhem (the roads arn't very wide). The council painted double yellow lines everywhere to keep the residents quite, the sc...

Noise is a form of environmental pollution, so I'm surprised the government hasn't got around to taxing it yet.

The higher the audio output rating of electronic devices, the higher the government tax on the purchase price. Easy!

Except this isn't "traffic calming", it's usually "traffic stopping". Traffic calming aims to force vehicles to decelerate down to the speed limit. On our crowded roads, such pinch-points usually force one lane of traffic to a halt, resulting in subsequent acceleration once the o...

They're probably aware of the trick of changing lanes between the cameras.

I'm surprised that Richmond's apparently not bothered by the noise and pollution that rains down on them from aircraft arriving and leaving Heathrow.

But then motorists have always been an easy target.
