Is it just in this area or have the summer holidays brought out a spate of slowtard drivers? Was driving up to Gloucester earlier, one guy in a Focus driving at 30-35mph all the way up the hill out of Wotton (B4058), a road where it's safe to do 50mph easily in a car with a "normal" perfor...

In my experience the situation in #2 happens far more often than the situation in #1 and therefore the lower risk option is to overtake suddenly without them noticing. Same in my experience, although the "I'm going to accelerate when he pulls out" brigade don't generally have much of a ch...

However, I would have told the lad, very calmly und politely with a reassuring smile (hopefully) to apply brain und COAST as there was a car .. moving slowly. He could not be sure if rolling in to park up or setting off after eating said kebab. Thus he should have pulled in to the space behind as t...

you say, you sometimes drive a clapped out Mondeo, what happens in that when you don't indicate? Hardly "clapped out"... it was a 2 litre petrol and would shift when pushed. Although it didn't have anything like the mid-range acceleration of the A4. What happened (past tense as I've now s...

You missed the word potentially there, in the same way that walking down a flight of stairs is potentially dangerous, get is wrong and you break your neck and die. Don't worry about it, the guy's a moron. Well... to avoid an accusation of ad hominem... his arguments are moronic. *puts a big sign up...

So there we have it - insurance cause crashes. So what should we do about it? You are, without doubt, a complete and utter moron. Let me give you an example. Highly contrived but it's to illustrate the point. You come round a bend to be confronted by an overtaking car heading straight for you on yo...

That's all very well if you have a very fast car and have taken the time to check your mirrors but you would n't believe how many times I've been about to overtake a fairly slow car behind an even slower car when about to reach a long clear straight and the "person" in front has pulled ou...

I did think about doing a poll on what do you consider the best safety feature/s on your car. I know that know one on this site would probably go for it but I do wonder how many people on the roads today, would tick their speedo and nothing else.... ;-) Ignoring the obviously facetious answer of &q...

So are you saying that kebabs make you drive like a tosser? Or that kebab vans attract boy racers? ;-)

Not going to bother starting another thread but had another one last night. Not a learner but the kid looked about 18 so couldn't have been driving very long. So there I was parking up by the side of the road near the kebab van in Yate (Badminton Road industrial estate if anyone knows the area). I p...

Watching the speedo ( I meant speedo not stopwatch - you have to keep your eyes on it otherwise you don't stop the watch at the proper time) for a time trial is a lot different to trying not to speed. But that's a different discussion entirely, and a diversionary tactic by you. You don't have to wa...

Um, yes, because they are going to stakeout that road 24/7. It wouldn't surprise me actually. But I won't go into that here. There's so many things that can unexpectedly happen, while you are glancing at the speedo. I'm glad you admit this. How about someone coming out of a junction and not seeing ...

No no no! Arrrghhhhh. Your driving attitude is becoming clearer, I was not on about anything to do with going faster than you. My point totally missed Point not missed at all. Hook, line and sinker. I ask again, if you think it's safe to do such a thing, please post the exact point (via google/msn ...

While I think forcing old people to re-take a full driving test would be a step too far, I would support a regular assessment from the age of say 75 onwards (my understanding is that you already have to re-apply when you're 70, perhaps a medical could be introduced as well) to ascertain that one is ...

Yep, dangerous. Unless you are not watching the speedo, which makes the test even more pointless, then your attention is not on the road at all. Sorry but the image of someone watching a speedo holding a stopwatch in one hand while trying to get an (in)accurate time test is not safe even on a strai...

When I get a chance I shall time the 40-70 acceleration again. Unfortunately on the occasion I did it I only got the one attempt before coming up behind traffic crawling along at 50mph...

1. If you are using your full attention for it, it's dangerous on public roads. Please say which road you did it on if you disagree with this. B4509 for the 0-60 test. B4058 (on a flat straight section) for 40-70. 2. If you are not using your full attention it's going to be wrong. It's going to be ...

Timed with a stopwatch - 40-70mph takes 3.8 seconds in 3rd gear with no passengers.

Again that's with a full tank of fuel, it may well be quicker with less fuel in the tank (and hence less weight).
