Yes - that white is part of the start of the bridge wall, so there is no space to drive anywhere except on the actual lane. I did notice last time I was driving on the Continent (mainly Germany and Austria), that the lanes weren't much longer, but they did use the hard shoulder more for filtering in.

Probably the same Lancs scam van/driver I had overtaking me north bound on the M6 North of Preston about 6 weeks ago.

He didn't just edge past me - shot probably closer to the word, so must have been doing quite a bit more than the 70ish I was doing.
