Hmm, yeah. I don't recall ever seeing a tank in the city driving on a public road. I see them fairly often on the Dorset Way. Although I think they tend to be APCs rather than tanks, but still... And I wouldn't call it a city road. Yet. They seem to be destroying it so it might become one. Stranges...

Stress comes mostly from the sheer volume of motor-traffic on the roads. More daft or perceived pressures which people foist on themselves or even have foisted on them by bosses in the case of the sales reps. One example from collegues in neigbouring Northumberland. Woman driving kids to New...

I was driving along an A road at 6pm this evening in poor daylight conditions and in torrential rain. I was keeping to the 30mph limit and as I checked my rear-view mirror. That'd be the same speed as you'd drive along the same road in ideal conditions then. I saw two white flashes coming from the ...

And if someone drove a tank over your car, it'd be your fault for not having as much protection as them? It would if I decided to drive across Salisbury Plain when the tanks were driving around. The tank driver would not expect someone to suddenly drive a car in front of his tank and I would get sq...

To be honest, this is what I'm seeing in this thread. http://www.btinternet.com/~michael.banfield/trainz/forum_pictures/dondare_flow.jpg Sometimes your replies indicate that you have not understood. By all means disagree with me, but don't disagree with something I've not said.

Have you noticed the extraordinary reduction in traffic during the school holidays? How many school runs really need a car? Most are less than a mile. Even the daily commute to work does not normally involve a motorway, I don't know what the average commute is but I'd bet that half are under five mi...

There are plenty of people who cannot walk or cycle, and no-one should be forced to. I'd like to point out again that I do not agree with the way BRAKE have interpreted their results, the conclusions they have drawn, their aims or their methods. But I do think that at least three quarters of the car...

Fear of traffic has been generated not by reasoned analysis of the facts but by campaigning pressure groups. The direct result is that fewer people dare to go out unless they're wearing a car for protection. Attempts to disprove that walking and cycling inevitably result in death have not worked, e...

The 20 mph zones in Barnet are neither enforced nor observed. One of them seems to be entirely in the wrong place. I have never seen any form of engineered traffic calming that doesn't directly give rise to poor driving practices. So surely the money wasted on a scheme that is neither enforced or o...

Only if more people started travelling. If the number of journeys was the same, but more people walked and cycled, the amount of motor traffic would go down. This might be what the burghers of Portsmouth are hoping for. The roads would be operating below their maximum carrying capacity. Motorists s...

The 20 mph zones in Barnet are neither enforced nor observed . One of them seems to be entirely in the wrong place. Probably because the zones are deemed stupid/un-necessary and worthy of contempt... As I said, one seems to be in the wrong place. No-one takes any notice of it, not even careful driv...

Both of these will lead to clearer streets, cleaner air Nope. It will probably lead to higher CO2 emissions and more pollution in general - particularly on streets where the traffic previously flowed freely at 30 - 40 mph. A road has it's maximum carrying capacity at slightly below 20 mph. I can't ...
