On Meridian News tonight they mentioned that "safety cameras" had caused more accidents at some sites than when the cameras weren't there.

Nuff said.

Edited to add: it's on the ITV news now too.

This whole debacle also begs the question why retailers send goods to an address other than the cardholder address! If they didn't do this then it would be pointless to steal cards as you could only send the stuff to the card owner address. Not your dodgy mate down the road or wherever it all ends ...

Could the poor state of the roads following two consecutive cold winters be a factor? More people watching the roads for new crevasses instead of watching their speedos? :bunker:

When in a queue of traffic on an icy road in an automatic, front-wheel drive car; keep your foot on the brake, apply the handbrake, put the car in neutral and take your foot off the brake. That way the front-end won't start sliding on the road's gradient.

IIRC I read about someone who went on one of these courses and started on about RTTM and other points raised on Safe Speed.

They didn't do well and I can't even remember where I read it

Continuing the poorly designed roundabouts theme. Keep an eye on this link to see the new roundabout being added to the A329M. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=jennetts+park&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=14.693358,39.506836&ie=UTF8&hq=jenne...

Surely the speed rating would only apply if you were exceeding the speed rating of the tyre? By which time you'd be more worried about the dangerous driving and probably unlawful killing charges.

Works to install the variable speed system on the M4 have been completed but lane restrictions associated with the concrete barrier replacement scheme are still ongoing. I have recently been told that there is going to be a variable speed limit section on the M20 near the junction with the M26. Won...

The part of Evendons Lane which isn't NSL, near the A321, is very narrow and usually has many cars parked so I don't see how speeding can be an issue.

Nearly took me off the back of the bike! I've also had a tennis ball sized piece of tarmac thrown up into...

I know that stretch of road quite well. The central reservation which didn't have a barrier was a grass verge which is approximately 3 metres wide at its widest, narrowing to approximately 2 metres. The problem with this is that the verge is dipped in the middle from the carriageway which results in...

To do with overtaking ... Why is it that if you are on your bike, pulling away from a dual carriageway roundabout in the outside lane, that the car in front of you, with nothing in front of it for half a mile and nothing inside for a couple of hundred yards, will refuse to pull over and let you cont...

Simple answer; ACPO.

Create their own policing policies, don't ask the government and provides millions of pounds to their members.

Mind you, most of the kids nowadays can't even spell Police State.

I do think that think that modern politicians would like to adopt the Sergeant Major approach to jurisprudence - "Any thing that is not expressly permitted, laddy, is forbidden" Common Law states that everything is permissible unless there is a law banning it. It also includes things like...

A friend of mine was running late in dropping her child off at school. She parked outside the gates on double yellows to let her child out then drove off. She noticed one of these camera cars a bit further up the road and a couple of days later she got a ticket for parking on double yellows. What ma...
