I'm with Big Tone on this one. There IS a markedly different attitude to pushbikes over here in the Netherlands, and while there can be irritations caused by the occasional misbehaving cyclist, there is a very high general acceptance of the pushbike as a fully integrated method of transport. It's a ...

I don't think the ban is important. The magistrate rightly ordered her to retake her test. She has absolutely no chance of passing an extended test without being able to rectify the problem. The thing that is almost as important as the dangerously slow driving. Is the attitude that people should &q...

Claire, please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of Paul, and many thanks for all that you have done for him and been for him. I never met Paul, but feel as though I knew him very well, and I now feel very sad. SafeSpeed and Paul have formed an important part of my life, and I always look fo...

Excellent thread. And a truly excellent post just now by Dusty. My "in a nutshell" view of things is as follows: - the whole idea behind not drink-driving, breathalyzers etc. was originally to mitigate the phenomenon of people who had clearly drank too much getting behind the wheel. - the ...

Please explain the logical steps you have followed to get from someone not believing the 'speed kills' lie, to them wanting to drive everywhere at an excessive speed. Dr L suggested that I shouldn't drive on tthe roads when I suggested that I slow down for hazards. His implication is that if he was...

weepej if you want to be perfectly safe in your car then drive it a zero speed, so it stays on your drive, where you won't get in the way of anyone else. That's nice. Just because I don't believe in tearing round like an idiot, and also choose not to exceed the speed limit, I'm not allowed to drive...

Excellent post ree.t, I quite agree.

The government (and authorities) encourage and display little trust in the public (that's us!), and their patronising and controlling policies are rapidly eroding a very powerful positive force - community.

And, for the fourth time, read my lips , IT WORKS. Yeah, but but.... ...in the Netherlands a bus indicating to pull out has right of way over traffic approaching from behind. That is not the same rule as here: "Give priority... when you can do so safely" Which implies to me, if it's not s...

This "reaction" to the article sums it up nicely for me: How many times has similar happened, but the prosecuted daren't argue in the courts? The technology isn't all its cracked up to be, and unfortunately the Police Farce seem unwilling to use a little common sense in these matters. - St...

I've been thinking about this and I cannot understand why the potential danger isn't obvious to all. Maybe because you seem to be overstating the potential for danger? I can see that there is some potential for conflict, but I simply don't see it being any more dangerous than the numerous other exi...

I am very impressed, well done Paul, this is IMO a very very big event...

(No, I never did dangle anything from my rear view mirror, honest guv.)

Oh yes indeedy, pink fluffy dice, wonderfully tacky!

Perhaps I'd better be careful or they'll be checking for rear-window visibility and confiscate my nodding dog :D

We all have to leave and re-enter traffic streams.

What make the bus unique?

The role that the bus fulfils in the "society".

In the UK the society has adopted a system which makes use of bus lanes (in some locations), so they already get special consideration in that respect.

roads in themselves are not dangerous, but it is the way in which some people use them. I think that's worthy of discussion. Can a road never be dangerous? Intelligent definitions of 'dangerous' are founded on measurements of risk - or statistics of crashes, which are in turn measurements of risk. ...

Deliberately removing bus lay-bys to slow down traffic is obviously bonkers, even by civil-service standards, so no need to dwell on that point I don't think. However, as Twister pointed out, there does seem to be a little less community spirit being shown in this thread than there could be. Whilst ...
