I very frequently drive over a long stretch of 40 limited road that until last year was NSL. I traverse it often up to four times daily in two very different cars. I keep to the limit and I know my speedos well enough to sit at 40 more or less spot-on. If I'm in my Xantia, I can guarantee I'll get o...

I've not and I must say, I really enjoyed it.
There is something deeply satisfying about looking at dead speed cameras |

ISTM that less frequent MOTs will not improve safety, although what amount of degradation will result from increasing the interval is not known. A lot. A great deal of degredation can occur to (especially) an older car in the course of a year. I run two older cars and I maintain them well but I kno...

Perhaps in future, they will ban people with long sight from driving on account of being unable to read the speedometer without glasses. The authorities probably consider this more important than distance vision :-) That's me finished then  Will have to sell up and get a decent push-bike t...

I have a visual defect and have to wear one pair of glasses for close work and another for distance. They don't overlap and with my distance ones on, objects less than about two feet away are a bit blurred, my dashboard particularly :x It came about like this: I began noticing that at night I was ha...

If speed bumps were designed to keep us to the speed limit why is it that that most bumps cannot be driven over at the posted speed limit? The only cars I know of that can take humps at the posted speed limits reliably are Citroens with hydropheumatic suspension  Once, I took a hump at 50mph :...

Think of all the potholes that could have been repaired with all the tarmac used to construct speed bumps. Such a terrible waste of good tarmac and potholes can be lethel. It quite amazes me when I see a brand-new, fresh hump constructed on a road that otherwise looks like the Somme. Like most every...
