Non sequitur .....how can driving in Yorkshire (up hill and down dale) have any bearing whatsoever on my looking at my speedo (or not) or indeed staying on the road? Confused Because if you take your eyes off the road to 'glance' at your speedo in a lot of places, even with your impeccable record, ...

Paul I am not dismissing anything...honestly I do...I really do understand where you are coming from...but make no mistake, I do not agree with your stance...I reserve the right to form my own opinions and not have opinions of others thrust upon me just because everyone else and his dog wants me to....

Paul, I have no doubt whatsoever that you have 'more' and you are confident that your findings illustrate how 'out of whack' you believe the system is. Unfortunately I'm not a well educated fellow...(state school education 11 plus and school leaving ('O' level equivalent) exam passes in English, Ge...

I was on about your chances of staying on the road. And from what you say, if you have driven these roads safely, then you've ignored your speedo. Simple! Two speeding fines, one BiB and one mobile scam, in 50 years and 3-4 million miles as a trucker isn't a bad average if one considers the 'exposu...

But with the amount of scamming that goes on, motorists have paid many times over for the upgrading of the 1079. And try driving 'Heartbeat' country with even half an eye on your speedo. I'll give you 5 minutes.......and all NSLs. Honestly I have driven the length and breadth of this Sept...

I'm sure this isn't a bomb shell but we do know that speed kills - when it is inappropriately used. But I'd like to mention some points where I think we may differ from your stance ElandGone. (Well, I'll speak for myself as someone who has some undertanding of what SS is about I hope)... I don't th...

That's all well and good but it doesn't address the question of whether or not one can "be in proper control" of their vehicle without knowing their speed. I think pretty much everyone on here would agree that the speedo IS useful for avoiding points and fines! It is useful indeed and usi...

I'm sure there are plenty of racing and rally drivers who will be alarmed and disappointed to learn that they are "not in control of their vehicles"! Similarly there are probably plenty of police drivers out there who might not be in control of their vehicles at all times. Snip.... We're ...

...ignoring instrumentation is like having the car drive the driver! Nope, ignoring instrumentation is known as a selective scan, and it does not in any way mean you are not in full control of the vehicle. You only scan those instruments that are important to the mode of opertaion your machine is c...

My point is that there isn't a direct correlation between "being in control" and "knowing your (numerical) speed". To illustrate this, imagine driving without a speedometer. You would have no real idea of your speed, yet would you then not be in control of your vehicle? Of cours...

Really?...My logic is thus...If you are in control of your vehicle you know what speed it is doing... In that case there is a fundamental flaw in your logic! If "being in control" requires knowing what speed you are doing then in order to be in control at all times you would have to devot...

Ever then realised that you are breaking the speed limit without knowing it? No...that must be an un-nerving experience for you to realise that you are NOT as in control of your vehicle as you thought you were.... I've thought about this carefully, and I can't in all honesty come up with a way in w...

Mad Moggy, at last! Someone who doesn't 'go for the jugular' at the mere mention of something not in tandem with ones own views! I can indeed see your point where speed humps could be a hindrance to emergency vehicles and such. But on the same tack, those drivers of those emergency vehicles would kn...

What is it with you lot? Is it so hard a concept to grasp that not everyone shares your own particular ideals? A troll...mmm now there's a new one...anyone with different ideals is a troll...I guess were all trolls then as not everyone agrees exactly with someone else's points of view. According to ...

strangely safety or indeed COAST seemingly, doesn't entail paying sufficient attention to the road to be able to spot a camera and adjust your speed to comply with the limit Oh yes it does, which is why most of the regular posters on here have no points. But again I wasn't arguing about this forum ...

I have to say I agree that if you're paying full and proper attention then there really is very little excuse (in most cases) for getting pinged by a fixed camera. I will say this. I don't choose to exceed the limit at any given time, I choose to ignore my speedo as it doesn't usually tell me anyth...

I've just re-read my response above  and find it may be misconstrued as I don't ever break the speed limit myself...Of course I do...but it is by design not an accident or a concentration lapse. Sorry if anyone got any other impression. :) Edit for spelling No sweat - you're amongst friends :...
