A terrible attitude indeed. Just where would her extra 10mph have got her should she have gone on at 40mph. If she had followed you at 30mph at a safe and acceptable distance she would syill have got to where she wanted but just a little bit later. It would have taken her 1 hour to gain 10 miles. Le...

I find these results most alarming, as they suggest that they save lives. We saw a 2% increase in deaths on our roads. This is despite our vehicles being the safest they have ever been. NCAP crash test, rarely see vehicles achieve a 5 star rating which is now starting to become the normal result fo...

Yes, things like trees and lamp-posts are about the worst things you can hit, because they don't give, and they concentrate all the impact into one point so are very likely to defeat the crumple zones and intrude on the occupants - especially if you hit them sideways. A lot of people think that a t...

Here, it's specifically about rigid adherence to speed limits and whether there is any safety benefit from that. At least, that's what the wording of the question suggests to me. Where is the rigid adherence? Even the non-attended speed camera has a built in threshold to allow some give in the spee...

1) Why, exactly, do you think speed cameras will improve road safety? (i.e. what evidence or information do you rely on to make your judgement?) Like it or not speed cameras cause drivers to slow down. Thay have also stimulated a debate on speed and road safety like no other device has since perhap...

The law does not prevent exceeding the speed limit, rather it provides for punishment in cases where people are caught so doing.

This has got to be the biggest load of cr*p I've seen you write yet.

How do you suggest it is changed to the former? Get rid of it?

Right now I'm all out of Troll food. Yeah. It's looking like that isn't it? I honestly don't know what is wrong with these people. It's also frankly amazing that no one ever has a stab at putting up a serious argument in favour of speed enforcement. I think I'll put "head of the queue" on Troll Ale...

For example the message: "You must always stick to the speed limit" transfers responsibility away from individuals towards the state. I believe that this is a dangerous trend and the warning is contained in the core values. This message is only coming from the anti speed enforcement lobby. The real...

On the A65 Leeds, near Leeds/Bradford airport there have recently been erected 7 speed cams, 5 of these are on a 1 mile stretch of road!
Is this legal ?

Why wouldn't it be?

We need full information and accurate targeting of real problems. Anything less is bound to fail. Having said that, I AM quite worried about declining Police training standards (and consequently driving standards) - but in this case we have no idea if the crash was due to bad police driving or not....

Free speech maybe, road safety not likely.

In theory that's fine, but more and more drivers aren't driving at a "safe" speed these days, merely at a legal one. As I said earlier it's not the expert drivers we need to be worrying about, but the ones who are more likely to be causing an accident in the first place. The last thing we should be...

Actually, it would seem that most drivers "feels right" speed is actually the safe one, as driving remains relatively safe, considering the amount of exposure we have. Until the unexpected happens then you have less time to react and more energy to destroy your life and others. Yes we should be mak...

The more we have "Speed Kills!" rammed down our throats, the more the idea that under limit = not dangerous will take root. And again, here we have the same message. Nobody in the camera system or the police is saying this. JUST THE ANTI CAMERA BRIGADE. not paying the slightest attention to anythin...

I have looked at this site and forum for some time now and following the Radio 2 showing and hammering that P.Smith took from Gwynneth Dunwoodie I have been prompted to respond to what I think is a fundamental error that P.Smith has made. In the J Vine show he spoke of the driving public being made ...
