Whilst I'm no great fan of the Wail style of reporting, they do actually mention the reminders at the end of the article. But having a reminder letter leave the DVLA is no guarantee that the corresponding photocard will be renewed when necessary - the letter could go missing, be misaddressed (remind...

I can see this going pear-shaped. I can also see it being turned into a major selling point by all manufacturers with hybrids or auto-off engines in their line-up... Also, on the topic of Cats, I think I read somewhere that no cat works properly in this country anyway because they simply do not get...

I dunno about that. Might have been true for the last protests, but with fuel prices now significantly higher (and with the price of just about every thing else being higher too), I think more and more people are getting sick enough of having less and less spare cash at the end of the week/month for...

I believe that the vehicle needs to have self-levelling headlamps and a headlamp washing system to be road-legal with HID lamps. Also check out that the headlamp covers (on the front) won't be affected, although I expect they won't be a problem. I have heard good reports about the Philips Vision Pl...

If he was going to scrap it anyway why not just let them take the car away and crush it and save the hassle of scrapping it himself? The interview I heard on the radio this morning mentioned the car had already been sold to someone for spare parts, and it was awaiting collection when the clampers s...

Those voltages do look wrong. Only 200,000 volts on overhead wires but 750,000 volts right next to the ground? Yeah right. Also, why have both overhead wires and a live rail? Mmm, more like 25kV AC for catenary and 750V DC for 3rd rail... Not sure if this particular stretch of track is dual-voltage...

http://vwisb7.vkw.tu-dresden.de/~treiber/MicroApplet/ I wonder what sort of personality traits the vehicles in the simulator possess; they can't be as simplistic as 'car' and 'truck'. Running the On Ramp simulation a few times, it seems to me that the backing-up always begins with one of the slip r...

As ed_m mentioned, boards still running the old phpBB2 code are a magnet for hack attacks, so I've been wondering for a while now when , not if , SS would be migrated to the more secure phpBB3 code. This isn't just change for change's sake, this is a long overdue change for the good of the entire fo...

Haven't seen them anywhere in the Midlands before. It's not being used to monitor traffic at a junction so I'm not sure why they haven't used the conventional type instead, like they have a further mile up the road. :? Down south, we started getting Redspeeds a few years ago, and since then I haven...

[I take your point, but it seems a bit odd that so many drivers stayed out of L1 for the duration of the half mile I observed. Oh, I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the drivers you observed were genuine MLMs, but equally I'd be surprised if all of them were. Over a certain period of time on...

While I think that the fine is totally unreasonable, it is not acceptable to break the law to help an ambulance past. While the law isn't always in the interest of safety, breaching it is likely to be unpredictable behaviour, and could cause another accident. Is driving in a bus lane actually break...

If faster moving drivers in L2 see slower traffic spaced out in L1 such that hopping in and out of L1 would be inconvenient, they may prefer to extend their 'overtaking' for as much as half a mile, which is of course precisely what I observed. Many of us have mentioned here, and in other threads wh...

If you don't use the brakes on the Prius its just a normal car. Be interesting to see comparions of round town driving, but I bet they won't do that. If you just want a town car, then there are better (smaller, more fuel efficient, lower CO2 emissions) alternatives (*) than the Prius. And as this a...

They're worse than that, you seem to have assumed that the MLM's car will appear suddenly in front of Squirrel, whereas in reality the nut-gathering one will be given some additional reaction time whilst the MLM is moving across the lane marking... |

lets play with some numbers. Umm, have you taken into account the time taken by the MLM to complete their lane change? It looks to me as if your figures are based around swerving to avoid a sudden blockage in the lane ahead, as opposed to reacting to the first twitch left from the MLM. Also you'd n...

And at the moment, do you know that NIPs are still being sent out as a result of images captured by any of the cameras so situated? If you do, then it would indeed suggest that the rules have been changed or... |
