Those old gits with radar guns? It's almost as bad as giving a monkey a loaded gun.

"BACK OFF. I'VE GOT A RIPE GOLDEN DELICIOUS AND I'M NOT AFRAID TO USE IT!! That ridiculous use of police resources kind of reminds me of that Monty Python sketch, "How to defend yourself against someone armed with a piece of fruit." Would Northumbia Constabulary care to comment on the number of burg...

Belfast Telegraph, January 24. DRIVERS FAILING TO CHECK BRAKES Many motorists drive with faulty brakes because they do not check them frequently enough, a new survey has revealed. Nearly three in five drivers rely solely on their annual service for brake checks and many have no idea of the real stat...

I've had further thoughts about this system. How well would such a system sense the road conditions? Braking distance is affected in adverse weather conditions such as rain, ice or snow or even if there's mud on the road. Secondly, just how reactive could an automated braking system be? If the syste...

Too much reliance on these robot devices is a dangerous thing. If this is a EU Directive, they obviously haven't thought it through properly and besides, "IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT!".

I used to work in a warehouse and had to wear a hi-visibility vest INDOORS because there were forklift trucks moving about. I suppose hi-visibility clothing does have its uses because only two weeks ago, while night driving, I saw a cyclist whose bike had no lights or reflectors and he wasn't even w...

Yep, she should've been booked. The Highway Code states that you should not park or overtake on the zig zags of a zebra crossing.
I'm worried about red light cameras. We have to look at the different reasons that folk go across on the red. Type 1: Never sees the red light, or sees it too late to react to it. Type 2: Recklessly ignores the red light Type 3: Goes through early in the red phase having...

:D What I love about driving is the sense of freedom and also Motorway driving. I know it takes extra concentration, but that feeling of speeding at 70mph is really enjoyable. Last summer I drove on the M6 and the A66 through Cumbria. The A66 is a great road (except for the twisty bits in around Bas...

I know only to well what being involved in a RTA is like. In January 1980, I was a passenger in Ford Cortina mk 3 that was involved in a side on impact with some moron who jumped a red light. My mother was injured and I had whiplash. I failed all my exams at school and when a teacher asked me why I'...

A report on the BBC Breakfast News on 8 November stated that the train survived the initial impact with the car. De-railment occured when the train came to a railway siding. Anyway, during my driving test 20 years ago, I remember being asked a question about what to do if my car stalls on a level cr...

[The worrying thing is, there will be a group of people looking at this "accident" with the opposite intentions of safety, how easily the rail network could be disrupted. Scary!
I agree. This will probably bring the PC car-haters out in force. And as usual, all motorists will be blamed...

Mad Moggie, I'm impressed! That's a great methodical way to learn to drive. I've one piece of advice. Tell your eldest son to consider going for any of the ROSPA Advanced Drivers awards before joining the IAM. It'll mean more lessons with a professional instructor, but he may consider it worthwhile....
