The problem with Brake is that long ago its reason for existance changed. It started out as a single issue campaign group and there's nowt wrong with that. But now Brake exists to see Brake in print, on TV and on the Internet. At first Brake existed to make a point, now it exists merely to exist. In... |

http://thewellingtonnews.co.uk/content/road-safety-wellington-top-priority The speed camera at Bennetts Bank, Wellington, is not to be replaced. Many feel it should never have been put there in the first place, as the accident figures used to justify it were fiddled, if not faked, in the views of m... |

I see! This would, therefore, imply that it really is all about revenue and very little about safety... In my view it's primarily about control . Speed cameras have never made any significant revenue except when the hypothecation scheme was in operation. Maybe, in the early days before people becam... |

A very interesting article. I am a non-driver. An eyesight issue, I gave up driving some years ago as a result of having a large chunk of the back of my right eye floaing around all the time. However, I can see well enough to notice the following: Many drivers do NOT keep their eyes on the road, any... |

I think that safety might have been the orignal idea. Until someone thought: "Hang on! We can make a fortune! But only if we start placing the cameras in certain very lucrative locations, they will not enhance safety, but just think of the revenue!" And that was the start of the long, slip... |

http://thewellingtonnews.co.uk/content/speed-enforcement-strengthened-a41-shropshire The placement of speed camera warning signs at enforcement sites is not a legal requirement. So, if it's not a legal requirement, what is it? Just a guideline? Also, wasn't there a case a couple of years ago of a W... |

There are parts of Shropshire, on the Welsh borer, where English is not the first language. A few years back an elderly chap was on trial for shoplifting and it transpired that even though he was born in England, he spoke no English, and had to have a local vicar in court to translate the proceeding... |

My wife and I were in Aber, not so long ago, with a Sikh friend. A man and two women started talking in Welsh. My wife suddenly walked up to them and began to speak to them quietly, but forcibly. Oh, dear. What a time for them to discover that my wife is a very fluent Welsh speaker! :D She never did... |

Well, a local solicitor might know (for example) that Inspector X is an utter divvy and that the right person to contact to get things started and completed is sergeant Y.

Yes. It is getting worrying. some clown decided to try to stop me taking photographs of an incident in the street, from my own property. He told me he could seize my camera "for the evidence it contained." (It contained no 'evidence'.) He was a civilian, but was working with the police. An... |
