What is the hazard test distance? I never realised there was one but that would explain why so many seem to concentrate on a space just in front of their bonnets. The number of times I've seen people following buses at about 20 feet (probably less too) and then when the bus pulls up at a stop they w...

https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/voices/opinions/2019/04/08/shropshire-star-comment-speeding-cars-let-off-the-hook/ So let's not assume that drivers may be driving to the speed limit more these days, let's assume more idiots are getting away with it and let's put up more cameras, "that's the...

Apparently we are going to adapt the speed limiter even if we leave the eu.

If you are so thick not to know a guy is wearing a suit of armour, should you really be driving? :-)

Exactly right, I'm amazed at how many drivers only seem to focus on an area about 20 feet in front of their bonnet, does no-one teach about varying your vision to scan the road as far ahead as your sight line anymore.

So we would expect accidents to increase by 140% with all those extra "nutcases" on the road.....somehow doubt it though.

I agree, Botach and always give learner cars far more frontal clearance than other vehicles, I can't see the point in getting too close, it's only going to un-nerve the learner and at the same time, you never know when they are going to miss a gear and slow suddenly.

I don't really get the "living in a city, no rural roads" bit. How far do you have to really drive from a city centre before you find a bit of rural road. Lessons are an hour long on average, surely devoting a whole lesson (or extending it to 2hrs) would enable a learner to at least experi...

Yes you are right 10 yards is probably exaggerating for some people. The number of times i've seem people pull up behind a bus at a bus stop so close that they don't realise that it's stopped to pick up and so close that they can't see that the road ahead is clear and safe to overtake it.

yes, whereas Care and Consideration are good safety tools, Concentration has to be the key one. Unfortunately, very few people seem to concentrate at all these days. The people that I see driving on a daily basis seen to be in a dream world with no idea of what is going on on the road, outside their...

I can see this working for little used motorways at their quietest times like our local M54 at certain times of the day but to put a learner on a busy motorway is asking for trouble, not just as a safety angle but as a congestion issue.

judging by the amount of serious accidents we have reported in Shropshire on a weekly basis (and the weather isn't even bad yet), the young certainly need better tuition in keeping the car or it's wheels or even on the roads, at the moment. They seem to manage putting it on its roof or in a ditch, e...

Good point, there's no law to say how far from the pavement you have to drive, if all motorists drove a few inches from the pavement when approaching traffic lights it would stop the kamikazes whizzing up the inside....no left turn accidents then.

So, imagine a busy town at peak times. A set of lights with a left hand lane for turning left and straight ahead and a second lane for right turns only. The lead car wants to turn left, has a green light but sees a stream of cyclists on his left...he daren't turn left so waits for a dozen or so to p...

I travelled the A442 between bridgnorth and Kidderminster this weekend. Now thi is a road I used to travel daily in the 70s and was a good safe road. Not now. In a short stretch of about 6-7 miles from Bridgnorth there must be at least 7 speed limit changes. The 30 limit stretches well into what use...
