No doubt you'd like to force it on them anyway; The old persection complex kicking in again. Force is what you're asking for and what you will get. The motoring lobby's (among others) refusal to voluntarily do the right thing means we'll all get a form of Green fascism, of stringent legally enforce...

Excellent news. All credit to Nottingham for blazing this trail.

I won't be signing this. 20mph limits in residential areas make the roads more user friendly for people walking and cycling, and we need to see more of both.

here's another shocker for you, barking; Robin never worked there. What on earth's going on? "We're not preaching rectitiude here: we're preaching hedonism." Wonderful stuff. Have a look at some of these, and rejoice that PeterE's dull manifestos - autistic listings of the ways drivers' 'f...

Cars make us fat. You can do the forum equivalent of putting your fingers in your ears and humming, like a tantrum throwing toddler, if you wish. Fact remains. Remind me, where was the dispute about the spelling of London? I'm saying you're a liar. You're saying not so. Resolving this one by linking...

Putting it to a vote of self-selecting safespeeders?
In other words, 'open review'?
:D

Paul Smith got considerable mileage out of that tactic: declaring himself to have prevailed in an argument before ending the discussion. That he was able to muzzle people by banning them helped, of course. Until your coronation as new king of safespeed, this isn’t a facility available to you. There'...

Drivel. Would I be right in guessing Wiki isn't as respectful of safespeed as safespeeders would like? London, Copenhagen, UK cities etc? Cut and dried, thanks, though wouldn't an 'apples to apples' comparison between Copenhagen and Colchester be more telling, given they both begin with C? Seems you...

Remind me, what was the 'real' result your means led to? I've pointed out that over a 30 year period that has seen the RPI more than double and the costs of public transport rise by 50% - in real terms - the cost of private motoring has fallen by 10%. I've explained that the dominance of the private...

I don't recall your estimate for the percentage change in the cost of motoring over the last 30 years, and/or over the last 2 years. I'm going to be led by govt figures which claim a 10% drop in real terms over the 30 yrs to 2005, and a 3.5% (over 2 years, hence below level of inflation) rise since ...

So you're saying motoring is much cheaper than the RAC figures! That's fantastic news, isn't it? So why are you all so glum and angry? You're right. If only we had some dense urban environments like Copenhagen here in the UK. Sigh... I'm being flippant. Did you think you were making a serious point?...

Haven't you had enough mileage out of deliberately collapsing and then separating two distinct issues in this thread? Top spamming! There's the issue of the sweetener with which car commuting colleagues, exclusively, are encouraged to keep driving to work, courtesy of the tax-payer. On the basis of ...

You've got slaver down your front. I'm not answerable for your lack of comprehension. It's wholly clear from the text that I used my experience for purely illustrative purposes and not as definitive of every commute. So, a smidgen of walking, as confirmed by the articles I linked you, and as is ofte...

Perhaps you and smeggy could get a chat room and illuminate each other. Commuting by car is subsidised with public money by my LA employer. Sustainable and active modes of commuting aren't. This is enough to disprove E's wild claim. Vast sums are a different but related issue which have been discuss...

KSI rates are not the only idicator of the efficacy or otherwise of speed cameras. That's a blinkered viewpoint. Speeding is aggressive and anti-social and it drives vulnerable road users off the roads. That's why it would be interesting if this campaign now makes its agenda clear- does it support ...

Given my stated location you can probably narrow it down - but that side of things isn't what I'm involved in. And I'm only a contractor - I just do the work, I don't have to agree with the policies. I'm less sure about that. I think LA's need to be wary of spending tax take on organisations oppose...

You must be joking! Should I invoke your own argument about used land? What about all those cycle lanes provided and have to be maintained? Could companies/councils instead not use this space for car parks? No I'm not joking. My employer makes no provision for staff to cycle to work. It spends noth...

Yes, I rather thought you might be obtuse about it. We have all sorts of different journey in 'private' cars, we have those which are wholly private, those which benefit the country by bringing our public servants to work, and those which benefit the country to a degree by bringing the workers to w...
