Thanks for the replys guys, I make no effort to disguise the fact that speed cameras work and if it comes down to it, I will support them and I also appreciate that many of you hold a different point of view. I do believe that they work, but I also believe that this simple fact has caused an over re... |

Hi Wildcat and everyone else, I'm sorry to have to say this to you, but I completely agree. I don't know what the French policy is in relation to trying to figure out collision causation stats, but it does not surprise me that if they are using this approach, that they are leaders in the field and m... |

But in a very real sense Tom, you were never really 'here' in the first place. You came to give people your wisdom and, when people here said: "Look, cut the bollocks old chap, cut to the chase and tell us what you mean," you either wouldn't or couldn't. Oh, well. As the old song nearly s... |

Robin,
I'm really sorry but Safe Speed as the ABD is obsolete. It has no future as any sence is interpretted as rhetoric.
Good luck to you all, I really mean that.

Tom, I would love to hear your opinion on how to make our roads safer and remove the scourge of speed cameras, however, you must forgive me for being slightly sceptical when you continue to 'tease' with lines such as 'I would tell you, but you're not ready', whilst at the same time admitting that y... |

On the contrary, I think you'll find that better driver education has been one of the "core values" of Safespeed for some considerable time! Certainly I (and I'm sure many others on this site) have always believed that it is the key to casualty reduction - the trouble is, it COSTS money a... |

I have never asserted that collisions are caused by speed (in the past I may have). Speed as I see it is a contributory factor. For example 1. Bad observation + Excess Speed = Fatal collision. 2. Bad observation + Slow speed = Injury collision The two examples are what is occurring now globally, how... |

Road safety is no great secret. Reducing casualties is no great secret. I wrote to the government some time ago to ask them about collision causation statistics and guess what....They dont have any. How many get killed and injured due to errors in observation, awareness, braking, manoeuvreing, steer... |

Wrong. Speed cameras take photographs. Nothing more, nothing less. Now since your first premis has turned out to to fundamentally flawed, do you seriously expect us to believe that you can develop a coherent and rational arguement? Sorry....closed mind. You mentioned twice that the arguement was fl... |

Lets take the situation with a child - junior breaks window - mum says "wait till dad gets home " - dad gets home and gives kid smacked bum - does kid know what it was for ??( too far in past ) New scenario - kid breaks window - mum grabs kid and administers sore rear - kid now knows what... |

Yeah, but is that the legacy that we want to leave for our Grand kids.
They'll be asking why our generation destroyed the fun they should now be having instead of being driven around by the commodore 64's grandkids. |

Could be; the tone in places is indeed similar to websites promoting such books. Or it could be "Everyone should stop speeding, because then casualties will reduce, and cameras won't be economical and so will disappear". Either would be a disappointment. Anything else would hopefully be i... |

Last one for a bit....40-1 is not good odds for me.... I still don't understand the concept that cameras are being too effective and 'that's their problem' maybe I'm working too hard! It's not that they are too effective, I never said that...The problem is that they work and the government have deve... |

I'll try to explain it again..... 1. Speed cameras save lives 2. The government realise this and so no amount of lobbying them is going to make any diference. They are going to stride on. 3. Speed cameras only save around 100 lives per year. 4. Concentrating on education, not speed cameras, could sa... |
