I do, unreservedly.

Splendid! I've managed to agree with someone :) I'd hate people to think I'm only here for a row.

Improving the child mortality rate is the answer to this, not contraception for birth control purposes.

Both, surely?

If there were just three million people in this country, like New Zealand or the state of Idaho, instead of the 60+ million or if the world population was less than a billion, (let's say), then maybe we would all have room and could all enjoy life complete with cars and without upsetting the delica...

So basically, you don't like cars so I can't have one? I don't suppose I'm allowed to fly off on holidays either, or put the heating on? I can't help thinking that if you had a sounder argument you would not need either to misrepresent me or to be so reductive in your arguments. I have not said any...

Sufficient roads and parking should be provided to allow people to use their chosen mode of transport. I don't want to leave my car at home; I want to drive it when I want, unencumbered by nannying people telling me what they think is best for me. Ah, well – in that case I think I’ll drive a gritte...

OK then fair enough. Bear with me here, but can I just ask what you believe the peer review process is supposed to achieve? Yep - short of researching everything in which we're interested to PhD level, it's the only way in which those of us who are not experts in either the subject field or in stat...

I believe you'll find that most of us welcome intelligent debate. I do however suggest that in making one of your opening posts an 'attack' on someone's beliefs (whether you are right or wrong) you perhaps announced your arrival in a confrontational manner :?: And noting your comments about peer re...

I would argue that congestion is a problem in most urban areas at peak hours. I have read a lot of the Safespeed website and have been familiar with their position on speed cameras for a long time. I have heard Paul Smith on several occasions and have never heard him put forward an argument supporte...

A constructive discussion is exactly what I'm trying to have. Will you only debate with people who already agree with you? Is this thread about congestion or not? I see there are already (a few) reasonable people on here who would like, in principle, to reduce their car use, but find it difficult. W...

BB - you really are quite touchy. What I said about opinions was just a statement of fact, not an attempt to grant permission. I suspect that goes for iagw too. Other than your preference for "natural" congestion and your dislike of immigrants, I don't know much about you, so can only gues...

Oh dear - has it really come to pass that one cannot hold an opinon on a matter without needing to back it up with facts? Welcome to C+ people... Of course not. People can hold whatever opinion they like. If, however, they wish to persuade people of anything, or present or refute any kind of...

Yes, "cram", I say. And since when did the Daily Mail come into this? I'm afraid you've lost me on that one, I don't read the Mail, I read the Times. And yes, I do dislike immigrants (I thought that was evident from my earlier post - obviously not), and I don't have to invent reasons for ...

Actually it does from me. I don't know if the facts and figures demostrate whether immigrants as a whole are or are not taking more from than they are giving to the UK. I suspect that you don't either. Many people in this country believe that they are taking more than they are putting back in and i...

Uh oh, all this out of one throwaway line :o Yes we're going OT here but, Daily Mail speak or not, there is a perception amongst a good number of the 'indigenous'* population that modern day immigration is getting beyond a joke. They go out and about and hear all sorts of odd languages spoken, they...

[...] I was pointing out in response that most immigrants are interested in work, and are here primarily for that purpose.[...] Oh! And that makes it OK then? Well in that case, let's open the doors even wider and see how many more we can cram in... "Cram", you say? I congratulate you on ...

And here we go again. Anyone who voices an opinion not in favour of immigrants is automatically labelled 'prejudiced' or 'a bigot'... I suggest you look those words up in a dictionary before you throw them around... Let's call a spade a spade. You employed a stereotype about immigrants with ...

What about if there is a time constraint? For example a while back, our cat escaped into the outhouse and started rolling around in cement dust, if we'd let him lick that off it would have killed him. It was 3:55 on a Sunday and I was immediately dispatched to the local Tesco to go and buy some cat...

... over-use of the private car? What "over use" is that then? Good point. It's open to debate, so why not start here? I propose for starters that all private car journeys under 2 miles are unnecessary, except where the driver is physically unable to walk, cycle or go by public transport,...

I don't understand your point. Reducing immigration would, ipso facto , reduce the increase of congestion (less increase in people = less increase in cars using the roads = not as much congestion). What has Japan got to do with it? I reckon if you magicked away all the cars driven by "immigran...
