I beleive Tyneside police have a zero tolerance thing going on and will give you a CO for 71 in a 70. I have never seen any evidence that anyone has been NIPed for less than 10%+2 over the limit apart from the infamous Lancashire cases which were dropped. My next door neighbour was NIP'd for 32 mph...

i think you'll be ok - the guidelines are set to 10% + 2 and i think everyone sticks to these as a minimum which would equate to: 79 mph in a 70 68 mph in a 60 57 mph in a 50 46 mph in a 40 35 mph in a 30 Unfortunately, some "partnership" areas are discarding this rule in favour of 1 mph over speed...

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned pepipoo on this thread. They may be able to help. There is also the fact that there is a bus in the photo. It is well documented that readings can be deflected from large vehicles when the intended target is smaller vehicles, especially if they are close together, ...

Ask the question the right way and you get the right ( i.e, the one you want) answer simply by phrasing the question the right way. You mean something like... Q1 Do you think that someone is more likely to die if you hit them in a car at a higher speed than a lower speed, all else being equal? Yes/...

I have recently sat (and passed) the IAM test. The only thing I was picked up on during the test was indicating too much. It was not seen as a big negative, only a minor. At the end of the day, the examiner said that it did no harm to indicate unnecessarily, but I think Paul's point is an excellent ...

But your opinion that they are speeding is 50% of the evidence. If a non-constable can give their opinion, then what is to stop the accused stating that in their opinion they were not speeding? nothing, the evidence / results of the LTI is on tape, i can sit at a site I believe this has been discus...

The child is below the criminal age of responsibility anyway, so he couldn't be prosecuted even if he'd managed to steal a real car and driven it down the motorway at 150 mph.

What is clear is that the illusion of danger does make people act in a safer manner. This is a trick that has often been used to make something safer. One common example is on fairground rides, where the rides may appear to be dangerous, but in fact they have a very good safety record, notably at fi...

Does anyone know how much these signs cost to install? About £5,000 to install, then a small ongoing maintenance and electric cost. I just read in a local paper that the council had just opted for a VAS rather than a fixed speed camera at a certain site. No prizes for guessing which most people her...

I think we've lost the way in this thread somewhat. Safety should never be about apportioning blame. Indeed, apportioning blame acts, at best, as a smokescreen, and at worst as a barrier to improvements. Safety should be about learning the lessons, and trying to ensure that accidents don't happen ag...

This sounds like a perfect place for a high accident rate. And an ideal spot for a partnership to make some money without addressing the problem at all. No doubt the milk lorry was exceeding the speed limit, which will give them more reason to suggest it. There are very many places like this around ...

As I understand it, vehicles have to be fitted with speedometers that are capable of measuring speed to within an accuracy of 10%. In other words, a car travelling at 30 mph, can have a speedometer reading anywhere between 27 and 33 mph. A car travelling at 33 mph could therefore have a speedometer...

One of the 30 mph signs was defective, the other obscured. I wouldn't be bothered so much about whether camera signs were there or not, personally. In fact there was one of those there, but it's not much use if the speed limit is unclear.

Yes, it was a 30 mph area - it was a restricted road, so I guess in some cases to be fair, it would be difficult, if not impossible to check all the signs. In this case, it would have been feasible, as there would have been only about 6-8 sets to check, and would have taken no more than about 10 min...

The use of cruise control in a 30 mph limit is precisely the outcome you should expect as a result of the current speed enforcement policy. The message is: Exceeding 30 mph is unsafe in a built-up area. You will be prosecuted if you are caught exceeding the limit. You should do everything you can to...

Driving too fast doesn’t necessarily mean going over the limit but driving at a speed that’s not safe for the road conditions. Now that does look like sound advice to me. In fact the most sensible thing a partnership spokesperson has said. But wait a minute, hmmm - isn't that what Paul et al. have ...
