The situation described by Lum is one I sometimes get stuck in. Even in lane-3 overtaking queues I like to keep decent headway. This may give the impression that I’m dithering. A truck in lane 2 is overtaking a truck in lane 1. The trucks are travelling at about 60. A car travelling at 65 in lane 3 ...

It did very much seem that one consequence of limiting maximum speed quite strictly was bunching. I'd read about this before but hadn't seen it in practice, so I'm not so sure that it's an unknown, although I don't know of any research into it. It should certainly be possible to get a computer model...

Genuine question: why do you think speed limits and speed limiters are good ideas? I don’t see that you’ve given any arguments that support them. Certainly, in built-up areas and places where it's busy, yes, it's best to keep things slow so that everyone will have time to react. But - and this is th...

http://www.highwaycode.gov.uk/15.htm 144: Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is d...

I got flashed on a rural stretch of the Pacific Highway just before Coffs Harbour (travelling north from Sydney). Apparently I was doing 115kph in 100 zone. This was on my first day's driving down under. Total stupidity, of course. Even though it was dark, the camera was very obvious. I just didn't ...

Some interesting things The Gatsos I was thinking of are one-camera set-ups with two grids – one grid on each carriageway of a two-way road, with the camera looking in the same direction as a driver on its side of the road. Reading the twin-grid set-up naively, it looked as if the camera would reac...

I have definetly noticed people speeding up to a higher speed right after a camera than they otherwise would have been doing had the camera not been there but then going back to the cruising speed they were doing b4 camera... Why are they accelerating up to this speed then coming back down. As a wa...
