| Civil Engineer, a very interesting read (seriously) and it has made me think a bit....however, i still stand by my view that NOBODY deserves to lose their job because of speeding. NO WAY! | I do have to say that i have never had to 'emergency' brake in my private cars since being taught to drive to The System. Yet before that it did happen. It's amazing what proffessional driver training can do. |

| I must admit that i do find it increasingly hard to drive at NSL on the way home after a shift. I might have covered as much as 130 miles on that shift, at speeds of up to 130mph+.........To suddenly get into my car and do 70mph on those very same roads seems very very slow..... :( Oh, Ernest, about... |

| I regularly do 40mph+ in 30 limits. I'm not "setting a bad example", i'm driving at that speed because i've been trained and i feel it's safe for the time and conditions. | Interesting thread, and i must admit, i don't know the answer... On Met Advanced courses we are still taught to clutch at the very end of braking, in all situations.... In regards to engine braking.... a story......When on the course we were driving 3 litre Omegas on the skid pan. On cadence braking... |

| I wouldn't be surprised if the cars "doing 60-70mph" were actually cars with noisy exhausts doing 35-40mph in second gear. Agreed. I've just come off night duty, during which i chased a car which crashed heavily after a short chase (roof had to be cut off by LFB, treated as 'serious' by the Traffic... |

As i've been taught on the driving courses i've attended, as i approach solid green traffic lights....

You need to start paying more attention as a 'new' driver, otherwise you could come unstuck big time at a juction. |
