Apart from the fact he already had 21 points and was still driving, what can we learn from this?
If you are a big earner, it's best to not send back the NIP. |

I was under the impression that the default 30mph limit is in force where there is "a system of streetlighting". It doesn't have to actually be on for this to be the case, for example, during the day. |

Interesting. Do you see this as a deliberate policy to reduce the number of drivers? I should have thought that the cost of insurance for new and young drivers would do this quite effectively. |

If people were taught to drive using COAST principles then "special practice" on any sort of road would be unnecessary. You cannot give people experience of every situation which they might encounter on the road. However, I would have thought that driving at night on unlit rural roads migh... |

A lot of noise is made about this subject but, in reality, the etiquette of motorways can be substantially learned by negotiation of large dual carriageway multi-level junctions. These are just as fast and require the same skills of awareness like merging at speed etc. The additional rules applicabl... |

Why not just do the reverse and make it an offence (or negative HC recommendation) for cyclists to overtake on the inside at junctions except where there is a dedicated cycle lane. After all, this is a very silly and potentially dangerous thing to do. As I have said before, motorcyclists and cyclist... |

There are several problems here that Brake do not seem to understand. As Peter says, there is a huge difference between making a minor error leading to a fatality (careless) and a deliberately dangerous action. As an example, take a woman who after loading her child and shopping into the car, absent... |

I agree entirely. The setting of inappropriate limits for political reasons has brought the whole "speeding" business into disrepute. This leads to the situation reported in the article where most people drive at an appropriate speed for the conditions but are dubbed criminals. Nobody woul... |

It seems all to do with what cyclists and Brake always criticise motorists for: wanting to get in front. If cyclists just waited in line of traffic like everyone else then their safety would be enhanced. Because they seek to get ahead of the traffic by weaving to the front they place themselves in u... |

The problem with upgrading the "careless" offence to become equal with "dangerous" is that a minor driving error by Mrs Average which has unfortunate consequences would result in a long prison sentence and thus be out of proportion to other offences. For example, Mrs Brown (who h... |

I found myself in Plymouth last weekend and was driving across the city at 11pm. I just assumed that the bus lanes (of which there are a lot) would only be in operation in the rush hour and may have strayed into them in at least two places. They have a habit of appearing on the other side of traffic... |

The Tesla Autopilot system requires the "driver" to be always alert and prepared to take over from the system in the event of an unexpected event. This completely negates the suggested benefits of autonomous vehicles. You may as well drive it yourself in this case. Most people think that t... |

I would be more interested in the danger posed in these incidents rather than the speed attained. It is safety we are concerned with and not simply speed. |

Good luck. The latest daft suggestion from these CSW guys to my Parish Council is 20mph limits with traffic lights for the narrow section of the village. Why is this even being thought about? Well people park outside their cottages on one side of the road thus narrowing it significantly. Malcolm's c... |
