I wouldn't worry too much, if you're on hospital grounds then there isn't much they can do in the way of enforcement (it's unlikely it's Highway authority land). Most of the hospitals I've worked with don't really care much about people parking left, right and centre anyway. Even if they do, just cl...

Just to add a further dimension to the debate on pollution aspects of motor vehicles (in their current form at least). The question of non-exhaust emissions is likely to become more important as exhaust emissions become cleaner. http://www.ies-uk.org.uk/non-exhaust/nonexhaustemissions.html Of course...

In addition, the reduction in speeds also means the network can operate at a higher capacity (though I suspect many SS propoenents disagree with this claim). So there’s a few benefits for you! Do you have any hard evidence for this? None whatsoever! I think I've read about it before, but a quick Go...

Thank you for your thorough response. It is rare to find an opposer who responds to all the points raised (without resorting to convenient quoting). It’s a pleasure, although I wouldn’t call myself an opposer to everything SS stands for. There’s only ever shades of grey and all that! I would agree ...

What possible benefits do you find to attribute to cameras? What evidence do you find where ? Well, I don’t know if any evidence actually exists, but from my own experience I would suggest that reducing speeds encourages the use of other forms of transport such as walking and cycling. This in itsel...

Excuse my delay in responding, I've had a lot to contend with recently. No worries, I haven't exactly been rapid in my responses! [of RTTM and bias on selection] I'll think I can accept that mistakes have been made in the calculations of the benefits that the SCP have said can be attributed to came...

Thanks for the explanation, it makes more sense to me now Would you now accept The Safe Speed campaign has a point and that you can now understand there really is an " argument for a reappraisal of the way cameras are used. "?. I'll think I can accept that mistakes have been made in the c...

That's fair enough. Have you read this Safe Speed (RTTM) webpage? If it still doesn’t sit with you than I can try to explain what it is trying to say. Think of the RTTM this way. When you try something new and you look at how well or bad it worked, there is a danger that if you only look at it very...

This is if you accept that we actually need such (tax/insurance) schemes . There are compelling arguments for putting them both onto the cost of fuel; doing so eliminates the necessity of having to track down untaxed/uninsured vehicles. These administrative schemes exists merely for the sake of it;...

But you still need people on the front line for it to have any effect - trafpol. Doesn't that make cameras redundant anyway? How many different sets of enforcers do we need? I think cameras and trafpol can be compatible. As has been said, one is targetting the "Normal" motorist who is bre...

We now have Boris Johnson saying that he wants the bicycle to be the default mode of transport in London. When I see MPs give up their Government cars I will believe the sincerity of this. That's going to upset the public tranpsort operators! At one time we smiled at the Chinese with all their bike...

How are you going to feel when you or your mrs gets a bill for £60 in the post for a minor infringement while the uninsured/taxed/MOT'd/unlicensed/unregistered continue to drive with impunity? Is this REALLY what you want? I think this is the problem. The former doesn't have to occur without the la...

Thinking about it, the only advantages a car has over a bicycle is comfort and speed (at a particular time of day, time of year and journey start and finish locations). What impact this has on "deserving priority" is an interesting question... I won't dispute the many advantages bikes hav...

So cars with multiple occupants should find it easier to make its way through an area than bicycles, which have always one person on? I'd fully support high occupany vehicle lanes, a car with four people in is a particulary efficient way to move people, not as good as a bus, but quite good. But are...

There's a few cycle lane contraflows in my 'hood, the only problem being cars parked in the marked cycle lane. Personally I'd rather there wasn't a marked lane, just a sign saying the contraflow was allowed, as in Kensington! As the CTC say, this is the way things have worked in Europe for years, no...

We have seen the fuel duty rise which has a knock on effect with every consumer as production and transportation costs are increased. those costs will be passed on to the consumer which means YOU! It's probably about time we started paying for the full costs of transport anyway so this doesn't worr...

And as for the assertion by Safe Speed that it means drivers will be looking at their speedos more (nay staring at them) I find I don't have to check my speedo at all in 20 limits as it's easier to "know" you are complying. We already know you're in the minority when it comes to perceptio...

Sorry Peyote, I totally misread your post and mistook you for a "roads are for cars only" nut (I think I've done this before!). No worries, I've had worse! Surely not to aid justification of the congestion charge... :scratchchin: I don't think that's true, I'd like to think it was purely ...

Shank's pony is by far the most popular method of transport in London, so why shouldn't pedestrians be a stakeholder group when discussing the way the roads are set up? At some junctions I can see tens of pedestrians waiting to cross the road whilst about 15 people in, say 13 cars swan by. Unless y...
