What makes you think that there's such a thing as an accident v speed curve? http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/speedandspeedcameras/speedingresearch.html http://www.safespeed.org.uk/speedlimits.html Firstly apologies for being a late entrant into this thread - I have been heavily involved in the...

Not quite Safe Speed in the Media but I have just recorded a segment for one of our TV Channels here in Sydney. (Representing the National Motorists Association of Australia.) The subject was prompted by the cessation of UK Government funding for speed cameras. I drew on some of the pearls of wisdom...

The State Government (or mis-government!) has until 26 March 2011 before it is despatched (We have fixed 4 year terms for the State Government in New South Wales). The opposition spokesman on roads, who will have responsibility for this area of Government, has already stated that he is not a support...

If I may make a suggestion from afar. Everyone should also contact their MP especially if they are on the Coalition side and make their points of view and seek their assistance (or even offer to help). You could also join your preferred political party and make your points through meetings and resol...

BTW that does sound like a ridiculous situation you mention, re 30 year suspended licence :loco: What the hec is that about! Its called dumb bureaucracy - our traffic authorities specialise in it. This lunatic accumulation of suspensions gives no hope of rehabilitation. We have all done the youthfu...

Another "trial" by a self-select group. It is almost certain that they are not typical of the general population and thus the results have little meaning. It is the envelope of performance that is interesting not the average.

I think you may be a bit harsh calling it a "mental illness" if I may say so MFL. Or if it is then it's something which afflicts most of us at that age  ( Perhaps a bit harsh but even in my wildest youth I could not envisage doing anything like this. If you look at the road it has p...

Other local reports suggest that this brat was"known to Police". Unfortunately in this world there are some people who do the most stupid things. It is an open question as to whether this sort of thing should be treated as a traffic offence or a version of mental illness. Not only is that ...

The North Report can be downloaded for your perusal (all 285 pages of it) here: http://northreview.independent.gov.uk/docs/NorthReview-Report.pdf One paragraph that struck my eye was this: 3.41. Review of the literature highlighted that there was only limited evidence on the pattern of drink drivin...

I am significantly underwhelmed by the suggestion that you could be infected with Legionaires from your own windscreen washer as the liquid would go over you and not enter the cabin. Also I think that most additives would have an algaecide/bacteriacide as part of the anti sludge component. I have ha...

I often see police cars driven at very high speeds through very crowded places. Ambulance drivers and fire engine drivers do seem to take a bit more care. Would love to know if somebody's done a cost benefit analysis (injuries and crashes vs severity of crime being attended), or even worked out if ...

You seem to have omitted those particular sections, any reason for that? Funny that, so did the earlier editions of Roadcraft. The copy I bought about 25 years ago hardly mentions speed limits. I bought my son a copy of "Roadcraft" about 7 or 8 years ago and was dismayed to see the sectio...

Its a good idea to review all proposals which have not had signed contracts (and even those that do) as the contract/proposal could be very poor in terms of cost/benefits or may be contrary to the incoming policy. It would be good to reject a contract that called for space and wiring for multiple an...

We in have 4 bins here in Ku-ring-gai (which is one of the Council areas in the Northern suburbs of Sydney). One weekly collection is for kitchen waste plus any thing else that does not go in the others, mostly 120 litres but you can have a larger 240 litre bin at a cost. We have a fortnightly colle...

In Australia where seat belt wearing is almost universal (where fitted) it is said that the trigger deceleration for airbags to deploy is significantly higher than other jurisdictions (especially USA). This is because seatbelts will manage the body well enough to avoid serious injury in relatively m...

York. The city of my birth which I visit, briefly, each time I return to the UK. My only reason for going into the city is to show my wife and offspring what really old places are like. Even 5 decades ago it was always regarded as a nice place to visit but a bloody awful place to do business. The So...

As I suspected. Anti AGW propaganda is being financed by big oil. Oh dear! The age old fallacy "My opponent paid for the research therefore it is invalid". Do you expect that oil and coal industries would be supporting research that would kill their industries? Do you expect that Greenpea...

It was very cold in Invercargill in November when I was there (next stop is Antarctica) so it would have been really cold in September. She must have had a lot of "anti freeze" aboard to expose herself! :o
