What I find most dangerous are the people who drive, in normal conditions, at considerably below the speed limit (and invariably speed up in lower mph zones!). This causes considerable frustration for other road users, long tailbacks and on most days I see extremely risky overtaking manoeuvres bein...

It happened yesterday. I was in Holland driving a rental car near Baarlo, a town in eastern Holland near the German border. I saw the Gatso, which was on a straight piece of road at a time when no other vehicle was present. In a somewhat cavalier, gatso-hating moment of passion, I stepped on the ac...

People seem to be missing one very simple concept, the speeds done over 70mph are wrong, beacause the law states it. It doesn't matter if its a straight piece of dual carriageway road, the law says you have to do 70mph. The chap from the partnership said they weren't interested in people doing a bit...

ok - a controversial one..... I consistently find my driving is better the morning after a sex-free night compared to one after a good time. Can anyone else corroborate that - or refute it? (I split this post from the topic about "off days") Ah, yes, two of my favourite subjects. :) Whats that, sex...

I'm not about to embark on this daft and bankrupt semantic argument, and not least because "safe" is normally a useful relative term not an absurd way to express "zero risk". I agree. It is therefore odd that, when I (a few weks ago) offered "Drive Safely Within the Speed Limit" as a simple mantra ...

Could you explain the three points for 'driving safely'??? What's to explain? Surely you're not suggesting that exceeding the speed limit is automatically dangerous? Try this. Find a stretch of (well lit) road where 30mph is a sensible safe maximum speed during busy daytime conditions. What's the m...

Speeding traffic has been one of the main causes for the decline in community life in the 20th century. MPs must take this opportunity to make the 21st century one of community renaissance.” The coalition is calling for: • A 20mph default speed limit for most urban and residential roads. • Changes ...

Another reason is simply because of visibility. I thought that the whole point of glass in the car was due to this. If you think about it, as a driver you use all of the transparent parts of your car to aid visibility at some point. Not true. In my car there are 3 rear headrests, factory fitted. Th...

Most vehicles have several areas of glass which could comfortably accommodate a reasonably sized sticker without causing a problem. Why is there glass there in the first place then? 1. Because it makes the shape of the glass more regular, allowing for easier manufacture and installation, and improv...

If you were trying to make that point, then why didn't you say exactly that in the first place? Because it's nice to live in hope that the audience are sufficiently clued-up as to be able to infer the meaning from a carefully worded comment, instead of simply having to force-feed them with the desi...

The letters "SS" in a UK standard speed limit sign layout are intended to remind drivers about the importance to road safety of selecting a Safe and appropriate Speed according to the conditions. How? If someone doesn't know about SafeSpeed then how are they to know what it means? What do people as...
