A car at 30mph has sufficient kinetic energy to jump 30 feet vertically since 1.0g deceleration from 30mph to 0 takes 30 feet. Erm, no. It has no way of translating that kinetic energy into purely vertical movement. It may have the potential energy. Also, the 1.0g deceleration from 30 to 0 takes pl...

Not sure exactly what you are getting at but the CPS has to lay papers with the court within 6 months of the offence. You should expect a summons shortly after that time but there is no definite time limit. They have to prosecute within a "reasonable" time, a ballpark figure of 2 years is...

Well, there are, but they probably would continue not to bother with licence, insurance, etc. :D

I What should have happened is the overtaking vehicle should have dropped back and pulled in behind the other vehicle (which is what I would have done) but I do find it hard to believe that this went on for 7 miles and you did nothing about it, possibly it may have seemed like 7 miles! I have seen ...

The quote above is not entirely complete as it refers only the the posting of NIPs.

To be more precise, the NIP must be served before the 14th day following the alleged offence. It does not have to be served by post.

BTW I went to a renownedly cheap petrol station in Salisbury today to find that for some reason they were still selling at their old prices of 92.9/93.9! Needless to say almost everything had run out on most pumps and there were queues for the remaining ones. As I was filling up the work van I gave...

This story is the Mail for God's sake. The headline (and some of the posts) imply that the content of calls will be kept - which it won't - I don't think that there is enough storage space in existence for that. Also, they talk about the ability to track a handset to within a few feet - somebody's b...

Then you would report it to the authorities as a fraud and S.35 of the DPA1998 kicks in, providing the necessary exemptions for the data to enable investigation.

Just to confess, that sometimes I simply forget to put the belt on. When I started driving, the only compulsion was that anchorage points had to exist in new cars. One thing that seems to escape notice is that belts are not a rigid restraint - nor are they designed to be - they stretch under heavy l...

This is true, it is one time where the "think of the children" argument is actually valid. I suspect most pedestrians wouldn't think to look that far down the road (which apparently is mostly SC, not DC as stated in the article) before crossing and all you need is a couple of them in the ...

BSAU145d defines the mandatory size of UK number plates. It mandates the materials and the character sizes, not the plate size. I have yet to see a BS that specifically refers to the Jaguar S-type/XJ and Rover 75 as individual (lawful) sizes. But I have seen plates with the BS label on such cars. T...

Talking about mobile phones, I found the last line of this article interesting. Cars should be fitted with external antennas What's all that about? I would assume that by taking the antenna outside the car, it is removing the RF to a 'safer' distance from the user's head. Presumably, as a metal car...

Of course the simplest way is to send it to the agency who will confirm who their drivers was and fill out the details. This is standard practise across the whole industry ...

I have just phoned Scott Pollock (my old boss) and we have gone over the situation. When the NPI arrives at Pollock they look up to see who was driving or if an agency was used. If an agency was used the NPI is forwarded to them and it is them who fill out the drivers details and return the form NO...

It would certainly have made it very difficult to get a conviction as the user would have reasonable cause to have the device whose primary purpose is to open the garage. I assume that it is actually legal in the UK. If you are talking about a radio frequency device then there are restrictions. Low...
