I doubt the government even cares if its response is correct or not, it doesn't matter to them because there's nothing any of us can do about it anyway. They want to provide us with the illusion of being able to protest, not the opportunity to actually change anything.

Democracy in this country is dead, this is just one more symptom of it. The government has realised that it can get away with doing absolutely anything it wants. If an online petition is created and signed by loads of people, they just send us all an email telling us we're all wrong. If we complain ...

I would have no problem with them pulling me over if that is the price I have to pay for catching all the other drivers who register their vehicles to false addresses. Except that, while that ANPR unit is busy dealing with your innocent reason for being on their database, how many other genuinely p...

I would hope not. If the issue of a NIP doesn't result in a response, the SCP has no way to know why there wasn't a response. It might be a false address, it might be someone who thinks ignoring it will make it go away, it might have been sent to someone who tripped the camera at the start of an ex...

I don't understand how people get away with this. How I would expect it to work is: 1. Driver is caught speeding on a camera. 2. They aren't prosecuted because their car is registered to the wrong address. 3. Their registration is added to a central database of "wanted" vehicles. 4. Next t...

A speed camera was installed not so long ago on a road near me, and I immediately noticed how incredibly visible it was. It was a combination of the direction of approach and the colour of the camera (bright yellow) compared to the colour of the background behind it (dark green tree leaves). So, I w...

Hmm, presumably SPECS only retains vehicle data if the calculated speed is above the prosecution threshold? And presumably the threshold in this case is set to something like 45+? Would they not set the prosecution threshold much lower for SPECS cameras? As car speedos should be reading a little hi...

Whilst it would be desirable to include in an investigative model of this kind some explicit allowance for regression-to-mean, no reliable method has yet been established for doing so. What a load of bollocks! I totally agree, I don't see how they can say that no reliable method has been establishe...

When I was a child, I walked almost two miles each way to and from school, along a road with a 40mph limit that was widely ignored and many people did 45-50mph along it. That road now has a 30mph limit, and speed cameras. Presumably when people speed up to 32mph in between cameras, these speeding mo...

There were 7,690 fatalities and serious injuries in April to June 2005 - a 15% drop on the 9... |

Interesting - the high court verdict will set a precedent. If that precedent is that 159mph is not in itself dangerous, that has implications for all drivers. Surely, if he isn't convicted in the high court, it will never again be possible to convict someone of dangerous driving based solely on thei...

The old guy just made the mistake of not seeing her soon enough. It could happen to any one of us. Sorry, but no, it certainly couldn't "happen to any one of us". If he really did have six seconds to react, that is a staggeringly long time to be inattentive. Imagine that when you drive along, you o...

I'm not keen, personally, on the idea of using a 4x4 when a lighter more efficient car can do the job, but the one thing that has made me seriously consider buying one is speed humps. I'd consider myself entirely justified in buying one as a response to these hazards intentionally placed in our road...

The study does seem to have been a bit biased, as it seems to be basing its conclusion on comparison of mpg, but then says that the 4x4s tend to be diesel and the others petrol. Mpg of the two fuel types cannot be compared in this simple manner, due to the differing amounts of energy contained per ...

I've noticed this in my car, too. There is one particular point in my journey home where it happens every single time. At that one point, it always feels like it's turning less than it should for my steering input, whereas the car normally has extremely direct steering response. I cannot see anythin...

However, if the "if it saves just one life" argument is going to be applied to cars, then I am quite happy to seriously argue that it should also be applied to "trians". Yes, clearly the two points of view must rationally go together. Also, unless someone believes that the first life is more import...

Is this guy real, if this was school he'd have a big red line through that lot. All he's doing is showing how the same logic that people apply to judging speeding involving cars can be applied to trains. IMO You cannot apply the same logic to speeding cars as you can to speeding trains, purely beca...
