in their profession they could come up with decent ideas to improve the safety of riders like http://www.smidsy.org.uk/ but instead they go for cheap publicity and spout crap. Great, apart one one minor detail: most fatal crashes are the responsibility of the rider, usually either mucking up a corn...

in the morning . . . I was clearly visible. Can you pad out the detail here? ie Facing towards / back to the Sun, or side-on? Or overcast? Or twilight? Hi viz? Reflective / fluoro? What background would the rider have had you against? eg hedge / wall / overhanging trees etc.? Could be the rider cou...

Sincere condolances to Paul's family & friends.

He was one of that rare breed of British 'mavericks', and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

He was sorely needed, and will be sadly missed.

RoSPA did some research into motorcycle crash rates in the late 80s and concluded that motorcyclists were slightly less likely to cause a crash than car drivers. the conclusion was partly risk compensation, but also the better visual awareness that a rider has. Dr Alf Minter researched car & bi...

From Bike October 06 Are car drivers the problem? Dopey motorists killing innocent bikers is a nice idea. Trouble is, it's a myth If we're talking danger, it doesn't get more dangerous than death. Sussex Police inspector Simon Labbett has spent many years trying to understand the reasons why bikers...

Hello! :D Just taking a break from supporting Paul in another forum . . . so thought I'd have a stroll around here :) Motorcycle Roadcraft lists 3 things that make a motorcycle more vulnerable than a car: Not stable – bikes will fall over No protection provided by a steel cage Not easily visible Whi...

Call me a cynic [" Horse! You're a cycnic !"] but how good are they going to be on planning applications, waste disposal, etc. etc. - all the other usual 'council' stuff? Or are they councillors & wannabees who've banded together? Well, my LA does jacksh1t for me (and charges me £1100...

I don't think it's exponential - I think it follows a "squared" relationship. Also how did anyone know the girl was hit by the bus at 50? Obviously, I'm glad she's getting better but I am always very wary of figures like that. There was an item on the BBC 'Trauma' series, where they shado...

i thought that parking on a grass area and not the public highway was a police reportable offence This is where it gets ridiculous. I parked where I did because that section of the car park's access road system didn't have any yellow line markings - while other parts did - and ensured I wasn't caus...

This is what decriminalised parking enforcement is all about. The people who make up the restrictions and inflict them on us even when we don't want them are the same ones who make money from "enforcing" the restrictions. See my 'Cumbria' thread . . . FWIW, I paid the £30 disounted 'offer...

Well if yu DO decide to come back - at least to Windermere, give me a call or check out my first post in this thread! The Belsfield Hotel is often given to offering rooms at reduced rates at off peak times. :) We will be back - despite any suggestion I may have made to the contrary ;) - just much m...

I dont think it's even flustered tourists - there just seems to be a lack of common sense. I have seen people who have not been causing any obstruction get a ticket - even when they have actually PAID to use the car park My situation (as with many other users that day) as I - gently, and after unlo...

If so, be warned: I visited Keswick on Easter saturday afternoon, and as you might imagine there were a few other visitors too . . . What you might not imagine was the council's attitude to those visitors, particularly with enforcement of parking regulations - their own regulations at that. When we ...

So it recommends turning them on when the sun is low behind you? This is one of the reasons I strongly object to DRL on bikes - if you have the sun low behind you and a headlight on, you break up your silhouette making you HARDER to see. This is quite interesting: http://jmrc.tripod.com/fa/stealth/...

HIDs have been around for a long while now, and available on just about anything from VW Polo upwards, not just luxury cars. My present car does not have them, and I miss them - the next one will I doubt that future purchasers will have much choice. My previous car (a Vauxhall Omega MV6) had them b...
