Have Stockport published the results of their Speed Limit Review yet, and any proposed changes to this road?

If they are not planning to change it, the Speed Limit Review would provide a good opportunity to write to them with an objection, and request that they increase the speed limit.

How long has that 50 limit been there? Long enough to ask the council for before-and-after casualty figures for the road?

Considering that this consultation document includes the snippet that the DfT did some research about raising the motorway limit to 80 mph but decided it would cause more accidents, are there any casualty figures for the German autobahns to compare the accident record of the derestricted sections wi...

The government's transport advisers claim the technology would cut road accidents with injuries by 29%. The device automatical...

Coming south, the design doesn't help because lane 1 sprouts an extra lane to the left which becomes the new lane 1. Most HGV's correctly pull over into this lane, however most car drivers probably don't even notice that a 4th lane has appeared and won't use it. A better design would be lane 3 sprou...

Implementation of the new digital cameras is now expected in the Summer, no specific date given, though I am sure if enough people were to contact the Highways agency t...

It sounds like she was just a very un-confident driver, not quite sure what to do with a right-turn across a dual carriageway.

This is yet another reason why at-grade right turn junctions on D2's should be banned outright.

The speed limit was placed to stop workers being endangered. Clearly the limit was widely ignored bya large number of drivers - none of whom were stopped, so likely sped past other road works too. Umm... have you driven on this section of motorway? From J10-9 southbound, the works were completely f...

Reading the transcript of the committee's interview with the ABD rep, they seemed to have no grasp of road safety issues and didn't even understand the 85th percentile despite having it described to them three times -- therefore it's not surprising what they came out with. However, the report could ...

But then 15 mph above the lolly in this area never earned the FPN around here. Press or rather those pro-cams accuse us of "not doing much for road safety because we have a low FPN return." Err.. we have a higher than normal return for prosecuting for much more serious traffic offences - ...

In fact what happens is that traffic bunches up as the silly 70mph effect ruins the (already poor) vehicle spacing at each flyover, then traffic resumes sensible running until the next flyover. Its a real joke! And if you don't know the scumeras operate, you will be nicked in total secrecy (presuma...

So, the Wiltshire scammers have now released 3-year before and after stats, which they are crowing about somewhat: Fatal SI KSI Slight Total Before 14 68 82 659 741 (March 2002-March 2005) After 8 47 55 341 396 (March 2005-March 2008) Do these represent real reductions? The Fatals is obviously not s...

Motorway camera vans probably do help to prevent some accidents, by reducing the speed of the fastest 10% of drivers, who do drive too fast for their abilities and cause accidents. But what's fairly certain is that if the speed limit was increased to 80 mph and the cameras left in place, there would...

The thing is that over a 15-mile journey there are numerous roundabouts, traffic lights, junctions, 40-everywhere drivers and such that will reduce your average speed to below the limit, even if most of the time you're bombing down country lanes at 70. In urban areas this system would be completely ...
