My condolences added to the ever-growing pile. I'm so sorry, I really had no idea of the seriousness of the problems. deepest sympathies to Claire and all Paul's family.
The campaign, however, must continue. Onward and upward, everyone! |

| OK, one of the main gripes that drivers have about cyclists is that many riders completely ignore traffic signals - either because they make a calculation that they will not be hit (I think this is called "gaming" the lights), or because they suffer from the delusion that "they don't apply to me". | Dunno, but enforcement is certainly inconsistent. On my road, on my side, we have a wide pavement, and if cars park with 2 wheels up, then 2-way traffic is unobstructed. A few months ago, a small car was parked outside my house next to the lamp post, i.e. wholly on the road, and didn't move for a wh... |

| And in any case, you are describing free-travelling speed, not impact speed. It is rare indeed for the two to be exactly equal - drivers notice a hazard, apply brakes, and the impact speed will be much, much lower, assuming there is an impact at all. What you describe could be termed the "heart atta... |

| Are you surprised? He is a man with a great deal of self-belief. Thing is, even if Paul wipes the floor with him in debate, he'll still convince himself that he won. It's like the Welsh rugby team in the 70's and 80's - you could never beat them, you just scored more points. |

| Mine - 04 reg Renault Laguna estate (sorry, "Sport Tourer", if you please), 2 litre petrol. Plenty of grunt for what I need - lots of motorway driving, plus ferrying family and/or bulky musical instruments - but not what I would call drastically high-powered, and I see plenty of both saloon and esta... |

| You'll find Worcestershire has done the same. Busting the speed limit there is easy as pie. Not that the cops waste much time enforcing them. |

| I was under the impression that they had infra-red "lights" each side of the camera, so yes they can. But I'm open to correction. |

| Caught speeding, even before you've got your provisional licence? Are you for real? If so, what sort of nutcase are you? Yup, I'd say you're screwed all right. |

| Where was I? In my 2nd year at Oxford, though I can't remember precise place/time. Favourite songs? "She said she said", "Revolution" and "I am the Walrus". Oh, and "Come Together" - *the* coolest song the Beatles ever recorded. |

What every one else so far is saying!
Having said that, on my daily drive to work it would make b*gger all difference as the preponderance of HGVs on the M6 makes it difficult to reach 70 even in lane 3, and on the M54 the elephant racers on the 2-lane bit keep us all below 60! |

Yes, there are some on the gantries, but not on *every* one and not on *every* lane at any gantry. This is unlike the M25 where if one lane has cameras, they all do. I'd reckon on them being easily moved from place to place, mind. |

| I agree. Blue signs doth a motorway make! Up here in our neck of the woods we even have a bit of single carriageway motorway. I always make a point of doing 70 along it! Are you talking about the A601(M) from M6 J35 towards Over Kellett? HTF do you get up to 70 on that piddling little bit of road? ... |
